Dance Party Workout in Philadelphia
Details
This is a great way to connect with others and dance. This is a dance party in the morning. In contrast the typical evening dance party often has that awkward time where everyone is waiting to see who's going to start dancing first. In this morning dance party there is no such awkwardness because everyone dances from the very start and we keep going for about an hour.
This is organized by a national fitness company called Dance Church. It consists of a fitness class that's made to feel more like a dance party. It's almost like a Zumba class except you are encouraged to dance your own way and at times engage with other dancers. You'll also probably work up a sweat more than Zumba and if the song and energy is right you might join others in singing to the songs. It allows you to FEEL Dance and get a great workout in the process!
It's called "Dance Church" because the dance class happens on Sunday mornings when people might attend a Christian Church. Otherwise it has nothing to with any church. It is just pure dance fun, no talking and maybe some singing.
My name is Wilson (aka WakundaMa). The teacher leading this class is Natalie Gotter. I'll be there to model alternate ways to dance, move slower, and pace yourself. My goal is to help create safety and encouragement for anyone who gets shy dancing. I'm here to be a friendly face to help you get acclimated to a Dance Church class and the Performance Garage venue.
This will be about 1 hour of nonstop dancing but feel free to take breaks as needed. Make sure you arrive 5 to 15 minutes ahead of time as the doors will be closed once the dancing starts. You will sweat during this class so dress appropriately. Be prepared to dance in socks or barefoot. Bring a bottle of water.
On Sundays street parking is free in Philadelphia. You can usually find free street parking within 2 blocks of the venue.
To attend you need to register and pay at this event webpage. After you register I then encourage you to RSVP here so I know to look for you.
