Casual lakefront bike ride to Hyde Park

Details

Join us on our casual Saturday ride to Hyde Park! A few notes first:

- Any rider who is not a paid member of Windy City Cycling Club must complete and submit the following waiver before riding: https://forms.gle/BfSfpE46z4MGNnLx9

- To become a member (for only $25/year), go to the following website and follow the prompts: https://wccc.clubexpress.com/content.aspx?page_id=60&club_id=770347&sl=875903113. The cost of an annual membership helps pay for club insurance and gives you access to other club perks and events.

Our Saturday ride is one that all are welcome to join. Our pace will be moderate, depending on the lakefront path traffic.

We meet at the totem pole at Addison and the lakefront path and leave at 9:00 AM, heading south. We'll have another stop at Queen's Landing in Grant Park (across Lake Shore Drive from Buckingham Fountain), leaving there at roughly 9:30 AM.

Food stop
We will normally stop in Hyde Park at Medici Bakery on 57th or to a smoothie place next door. After eating we head back to the Queen's Landing, where people can break off as needed.

All WCCC members are welcome to bring their friends along. This ride is meant to be social, so we strongly encourage everyone to come ready to meet someone!

We may cancel for bad weather or ride-host related reasons, so please check back on this page for updates the morning of the ride to make sure it's still on.

What do I bring?

  1. Your bike! We'll be riding at a moderate pace, generally around 12-15 mph depending on lakefront traffic. Be prepared to ride around 26 miles round trip if you're riding with us from the totem pole and back.
  2. All WCCC rides require a helmet.
  3. Water bottle.
  4. Bike lock if possible. If not, usually someone can watch your bike if you want to run in and grab a snack.
  5. It’s a good idea to bring materials to fix a flat. Usually there is a good-natured soul who will help you, but it’s good to be prepared.
  6. Money for lunch or public transport. The path is fairly close to public transportation the entire route, so the CTA is always an option to get back if you’re too tired or your bike has malfunctioned.

We hope to see you on the WCCC Hyde Park Ride!
