What we’re about
Windy City Skaters is a group open to anyone who likes to move around on wheels. While most of us are on inline skates (rollerblades) we also welcome skateboarders and long boarders.
Chicago has tons of cool places to skate. If you haven't discovered them yet you will with this group. Windy City Skaters is a diverse group of friendly, fun loving people. This group has been going strong since 2008 and keeps getting bigger every season.
Some of the things we have done during the past few seasons are:
Organized inline street skates (themed city tours)
Inline freestyle slalom practice at the lakefront
Critical Mass on Inline skates, longboards and bikes
Inline Marathons and the American Cancer Society Walk and Roll event
Beginner lessons
Skating workshops
We are open for any ideas that bring people together to socialize while skating. We hope to see you out there, no matter what your skill level is, we'd love to have you.

See all- Holiday Lights Road Rave 2024!Daley Plaza , Chicago, IL
Helmet Required*
Please Sign Online Waiver:
https://www.waiverfile.com/b/WindyCitySkaters
Please sign this waiver ahead of time so we can begin skating promptly.Bonus Road Rave! We will wear battery-operated Holiday lights and skate a 12-mile route through popular bar & restaurant parts of Chicago. This is the night Chicago lights up the Christmas tree at Millennium Park. Spreading Holiday Cheer while skating with lights is a lot of fun. Bring your own lights. Target has them: Target Battery-Operated Holiday Lights. Don’t forget batteries. We will finish at a local bar/restaurant, TBD. Bringing shoes is a good idea for the bar/restaurant.
Road Raves take place every other Friday May to October. That is because we plan the routes and skate them once first.
Route: 10 to 14 Miles through the city. Duration approximately 2.5 hours. Every skate has a different theme that will be announced shortly prior to the event.
What to bring:
Signed Waiver. Please sign online waiver ahead of time.
Helmet Required. Wrist guards and other pads are also recommended.
Water (we usually make a water stop but not always).
Snacks (Energy bar or something small) You will probably have to refuel at some point during a 2 hours skate.
Blinky lights if you have them.
Required skill level:
We stop at red lights. Know how to brake.
We skate in the bike lane or only one traffic lane. We don’t block traffic.
Comfortable skating in traffic (we skate on the streets)
Ability to keep a decent pace (you don't have to be super fast but somewhat able to keep up)
Ability to step over potholes, sticks, curbs, rocks, railroad tracks, etc.
Comfortable going up and down hills (there aren't that many in Chicago)
What else:
This event is organized by Windy City Skaters. This is a recreational fun social group skate. It is not a race. We will stay together as a group.
You skate at your own risk. Skaters will have to sign a Waiver and wear a Helmet to attend.
Check this page for last minute updates and more information. Road Raves are usually canceled by 3pm day of if bad weather is expected.
