Name: Hike to Walden Pond and Fairhaven Bay

Join Women Outdoors for a 5-mile hike through Walden Pond State Reservation and conservation land in Lincoln and Concord. Our route includes a walk along Fairhaven Bay on the Sudbury River, one of the most scenic trails in Concord. We will hike past wetlands and through forest and if time permits, we will pass what Thoreau called "Grape Cliff." The hike ends near the replica of Thoreau’s cabin by the Visitor Center. Afterward, there is an option to get together for lunch in nearby Concord Center.

We meet at 9:45 am in front of the [Walden Pond Visitor Center](https://www.walden.org/what-we-do/friends-of-walden-pond/our-park/) at 915 Walden St., Concord, MA for a 10 am start time. We will hike at a moderate pace and stay together as a group. The terrain is moderate and the elevation is less than 300 feet. Hiking poles are recommended if you use them, due to fallen leaves and roots.

This hike is considered by Women Outdoors to be a Level 2, intermediate-level hike. Please assess your fitness level.

In case of heavy rain, we will announce a postponement in advance.

**What to bring:**
Wear hiking boots or trail shoes.
Hiking poles or a walking stick are recommended (if you have them).
At least a liter of water, snacks
Wear layers and moisture-wicking clothing appropriate for the weather
Hat and gloves/mittens
Sunscreen.

**Car pooling is recommended.**

There's plenty of parking in the Walden Pond Reservation parking lot; available in advance for $8 from [DCR](https://yodelportal.com/massdcr).
Walden Pond is accessible from the Fitchburg MBTA line and a 1.8-mile walk/Uber from the Lincoln stop.
