### Lone Star Hiking Trail Adventure
Join Us for a 5-Day Hiking and Camping Expedition on the Lone Star Hiking Trail!
Dates: Tentatively in March, will select exact dates closer to the hike.
Should be warming up, but not hot and hopefully before April showers start.
Starting Location: Sam Houston National Forest. Starting at Trailhead #1
Are you ready for an unforgettable outdoor experience? Join us as we explore the stunning Lone Star Hiking Trail, a remarkable 95-mile trail that weaves through the scenic beauty of Sam Houston National Forest. Over the course of 5 days and 4 nights, we’ll immerse ourselves in nature, hike diverse terrains (as much as you can down here), and camp under the stars.
Trail Highlights:
- Length: Approximately 95 miles (we’ll cover a portion each day)
- Difficulty Level: Moderate (suitable for those with some hiking experience)
- Scenic Views: Enjoy lush pine forests, tranquil creeks, and vibrant wildflowers.
- Wildlife Watching: Keep an eye out for deer, birds, and other local wildlife.
Itinerary Overview:
Daily hikes ~20, split into two 10 mile sections. Each day features a new section of the trail, with planned stops for lunch and breaks to soak in the surroundings. In the evenings, we’ll gather around the campfire for meals and share stories.
- Day 1: Arrival at Trail head #1, hike to trailhead #3 for lunch, hike to Stubblefield Lake Recreational Area to set up camp and have diner.
- Day 2: Hike to West Huntsville Trail Camp for lunch, hike to Phelps Trail Camp for camp set up for the night.
- Day 3: Hike to East Four Notch Hiker Camp for lunch, hike to Big Woods Trail Camp for camp set up for the night.
- Day 4: Hike to Trailhead #11 for lunch, hike to Tarkington Trail Camp set up for the night.
- Day 5: Hike to Trailhead #14 for lunch, finish up the hike strong!
Will plan transportation back to Trailhead #1.
What to Bring:
- Essential Gear: Backpack, sleeping bag, tent, cooking equipment, and personal items.
- Clothing: Layered clothing suitable for varying weather conditions, sturdy hiking boots, and a rain jacket.
- Food & Water: Plan for meals and snacks. Water filtration or purification systems recommended.
