Monthly Online World Languages Café is a place to speak a language you know or one you are learning, converse in a friendly atmosphere, meet new people who enjoy learning about other cultures, increase your fluency by speaking and listening, pick up useful phrases to use when traveling and recall your childhood language.
Online World Language Café is held once a month year-round on the fourth Tuesday or Wednesday of the month from 7-9 p.m. at Zoom.
Feel free to join and select which language table you want to join. Language tables are hosted by a native speaker who will facilitate conversation. Languages include American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, English, Farsi, French, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Turkish.

The World Languages Café is back in person!
World Languages Café is a place to speak a language you know or one you are learning, converse in a friendly atmosphere, meet new people who enjoy learning about other cultures, increase your fluency by speaking and listening, pick up useful phrases to use when traveling and recall your childhood language.
World Language Cafés are held once a month year-round. The World Languages Café meets on the second Thursdays of the month from 7-9pm at the Howard County Library Miller Branch. Come in and join the language table of your choice. Language tables are hosted by a native speaker who will facilitate conversation. Languages include American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese - Mandarin, Chinese - Cantonese, Dutch, English, Esperanto, Farsi, French, German, Haitian Creole, Hebrew, Hindi, Irish Gaelic, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Turkish.
Children under the age of 13 should be accompanied by an adult. People are welcome to bring food and beverages and may bring treats from their culture to share with their table.

If you are a Language Table Host (native or fluent speaker of a particular language), please let us know if you will be able to host by sending an email to [email protected] or [email protected]. If you are new and would like to host a table, please specify which language you speak fluently.

World Languages Café is held on Zoom biweekly. By gathering in the main "room" and then divided into different language-specific meeting "rooms" for the languages that were represented.
How to join?
Join Zoom meeting using the link when you are received after RSVP*Please, follow the instruction to change your name on Zoom temporary. So, less waiting time guaranteed.

*Maximum capacity is 100 people. First come first serve.

Join the Zoom call and we'll do our best to set up language rooms for the languages of the people who show up. Language tables are normally hosted by a native speaker or equivalent.
Languages: American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese - Mandarin, Chinese - Cantonese, Dutch, English, Esperanto, Farsi, French, German, Haitian Creole, Hebrew, Hindi, Irish Gaelic, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swahili and Turkish. But other languages can be hosted upon request. All we need is a fluent language host and people who want to practice.

You will be banned. If you receive these requests, you shall report them to me.4.Listening only member is accepted. Tell people that you are in listening mode.
5.Avoid using English as possible for language practice
6.Listen to your friends. Don't take over someone's speaking time.
7.Respect each other
If you feel uncomfortable talking about the topic, you can ask to stop it. Please report it to me if you feel uncomfortable.- Come early if fewer members join your language table.
