What we’re about
Write Club Bangalore, at the time of this writing, has survived (some would say thrived) for over 529 weeks. When it was first conceived, the founders wanted it to be a place where people came to write. Over the years we've tried to remain true to that philosophy, and we believe that you learn to write only by writing, and that some writing, regardless of its quality, is better than no writing.
Our meetups are structured around this premise. All our hosts strive to keep talking time to a minimum. They introduce a topic, give examples on how the topic is best written about, and then they give out exercises for the group to work on. Exercises typically take 40 minutes of writing time, and after that we have a session of reading where each member reads out his work.
Currently we run two events every Saturday, one on the terrace of Salmon Leap Associates which is located on roof of Sana Plaza, on 21/14A MG Road (Bangalore), and the other online (for the community that came together during the pandemic and are no longer in Bangalore). Vijay, the man who runs the place, is one of our oldest members, and he graciously allows us to use the lovely roofed terrace of the bulding.
Our founding member and one of our most well known authors is Sharath. He kept the club running for over six years till he moved out of Bangalore and passed on the baton to other members.
Note: We are primarily a social club for people interested in writing. In all our interactions, is is best that we respect the opinions of those we interact with, even if we disagree with them, especially around personal opinions on gender, caste, creed, religion, sexuality, language and politics etc.
The club has functioned so far because of mutual respect and dignified behaviour, and it is essential that we continue the same way.
