Following the success of our first-ever Lavender Lit Brunch, we're continuing the empowerment writing series with Lavender Lit Brunch 02! This event offers a supportive and inclusive environment for creative minds, with a special focus on fostering and empowering minority voices, including queer and female writers. If you identify as queer, female, or both, you are warmly encouraged to join our writing brunch. Additionally, if you are a minority in the realm of literature and have a compelling story to tell, or if you are an ally who aligns with our mission to empower minority voices, you are more than welcome to join us!
Everyone is welcome to share their work, give and receive feedback, and connect with fellow writers over a delicious brunch and guided group writing activities. We'll engage in two short creative writing exercises: a 3-minute activity where each participant contributes a word to create a "word bundle" as a writing prompt, followed by a 12-minute session where we exchange writing prompts with each other. After each exercise, we'll share our writings.
This time, we'll continue to meet at Mystic Coffee. It is my favorite brunch spot in town—the open space, lake view, and well-spaced tables are perfect for letting our creative juices flow with the wind and waves of West Lake, for reading aloud, and for feeling safe with the freedom to leave the space whenever you wish.
We are a group of professionals from various fields with a passion for writing. We believe in building a community that supports each other’s creative interests and fosters collective growth as writers, celebrating all voices. We've been part of various spoken word and writing communities all over the world, but we've often noticed that male voices tend to dominate, leaving minority voices gradually silenced. This event is a space where all voices can feel heard and be heard. So grab your notebook, bring your ideas, and let’s inspire each other to write our hearts out!
