What we’re about

A little known Basque philosopher, Xavier Zubiri (1898-1983) studied with the founders of phenomenology, discoursed with the developers of quantum mechanics and took physics seriously: there’s no atomic “bodies” but there really are atomic realities. He developed a system of reference grounded in reality; the reality of physical things as apprehended by the human, in the psycho-organic substantivity of our body (life demands many substances to become a substantive reality). His work is an exposition of dynamic structures within which life emerges and the dynamic structures of intellection: apprehending things as real. This is his assertion, and he speculated it’s related to the complexity and functionality of neurocortical structures and the human psyche.

I’ve studied his works for over 20 years and written a bit about them in the fields of psychology and philosophy. I’ve got a mind map of this work and will share if you’d like to participate, to facilitate interest. I’ll give intro information for about 20-30 minutes, then let’s discuss!

Looking to challenge your idea of reality in a rigorous way, and help me challenge mine? Zubiri’s works will help; he’s not an easy read, perpetually grounding his thought in the reality of this world and things. He creates a “metaphysics from within the world”. Things reveal to us what they are and with our sentient intelligence, we apprehend them as real things we make our lives with. His magnum opus, “Sentient Intelligence” can be retrieved online.

I’m proposing this to see if anyone on MeetUp is interested to explore together. Online discussion
