Name: Backpacking the FLT Onondaga Branch

This will be a one night winter backpacking trip in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. The Onondaga Trail is a branch trail of the FLT system and we will put in some big miles to hike the full trail this weekend. We’ll meet early on Saturday morning and leave a vehicle at the parking area at the southern terminus on Stony Brook Road. We’ll shuttle to the parking area near the northern terminus on Irish Hill Road to start our hike.

The starting point of the hike is a little southeast of Syracuse, NY. The trail alternates between on and off road sections, but looks to be far more off roads than on. There’s also a nice waterfall along the way, which may be frozen. And we’ll be camping at a pond, which may also be frozen. Cool!

We’ll meet at the Dollar General in Cincinattus, NY and caravan about 20 minutes to the southern terminus parking area. As with the January trip, snowfall may impact parking, so I’d like to meet somewhere with an address.

Saturday: Northern Terminus @ Irish Hill Rd to Spruce Pond (23 miles)
Sunday: Spruce Pond to Southern Terminus (16 miles)
