Xmas Event: Sicklinghall to Linton walk (7miles) then Meal
Details
A DEPOSIT OF £10 IS REQUIRED NO LATER THAN 20 SEPTEMBER. PLACES WILL BE ALLOCATED ON 10 SEPTEMBER.
Event Eligibility: This is a ‘packaged’ event. If you sign up for the walk, you are also signing up for the meal. You should have attended at least one previous walk with the Group and be a Group member. For those who feel this walk is too long for them, you are welcome to sign up just for the meal.
Location: Scotts Arms, Sicklinghall (near Wetherby), LS22 4BD. Phone: 01937-582100.
THE WALK:
An adaptation of a walk previously led, this one cuts out a few sections, making it a more direct route, adding a few bits along quiet roads and cutting out some of the sections which, at times, can be muddy. However, I can’t guarantee a mud-free walk at this time of year!
We have permission to use the car park. Car sharing is strongly recommended to reduce our impact on the pub’s car park (it’s a busy pub) and the village street. Please arrive in good time so we can complete the walk at our usual steady pace before returning to the pub for our festive meal.
If you have not arrived in time for us to set off at the advertised time, it will be assumed you are just attending the meal.
This ‘easy’ walk begins with a saunter along the main street, viewing some attractive properties, past the village pond and onto a lane that leads us into Stockeld Park. From here, we cross a field and pick up the Harland Way, the old railway trackbed, which takes us all the way to Wetherby.
After a short break overlooking the river Wharfe, we head off along a few of Linton’s palatial residential streets before we head along a country lane towards Wood Hall Hotel and then traverse various fields, woodland trails and field edge paths before another quiet lane takes us back to Sicklinghall.
The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time.
Walk fee: £0. Its Christmas!! No dogs please. Bring snacks/drink with you for a morning break.
I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
THE MEAL:
As per last year, I have booked the entire Garden Room, which seats 36 people and the meal has been booked for 1pm.
When you RSVP for this event, you will initially be placed on a waiting list, irrespective of how many places are available. This means the event will show on the website as ‘full’ from the day of uploading. Having given everyone time to respond, places will be allocated on Tues 10 Sept.
At this point, you will be requested to provide a £10 deposit which is payable no later than 20 September to secure your place. This can be transferred via internet banking or handed to me on a walk.
MENU CHOICES
As of 2/9, the chef is collating this year’s festive menu so choices will be advised, once known. The cost is also awaiting confirmation but last year a three-course meal was £36. Please advise of any dietary requirements I need to pass onto the pub.
SEATING PLAN
Attendees will be allocated a specific place to sit so feel free to send in your requests!
CANCELLATIONS
If you drop out of the event after your deposit has been transferred to the venue, you can only expect a refund if someone is available to take your place and the closer to the event you drop out, the less likely it is that a refund will be possible due not only to the venue’s terms & conditions but also I would need time to recruit a replacement, receive their deposit and be advised of their menu choices.
