Newmillerdam & Seckar Wood - 4 miles
Details
PLEASE NOTE: this walk is subject to a reasonable number of people signing up, given the fact I will have a two hour round trip, travelling 88 miles for a short walk!
Newmillerdam lies on the A61, three miles south of Wakefield.
This walk encompasses both Newmillerdam Country Park and Seckar Wood. We start from the pay & display car park at the western end of the lake (the main car park in the area alongside the A61, which is £2 for four hours), opposite the Fox & Hounds pub. Postcode of the pub is WF2 6QQ.
We take a pleasant stroll alongside the lake past the grade 2 listed boathouse and the causeway. Having reached the far end of the lake, we cross a bridge and go up into the woods. An enjoyable jaunt through the woods brings us to another bridge, which crosses an old railway trackbed then, having crossed the A61, we head into Seckar Wood, a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The path ascends to heathland before descending and along through a series of fields before finding our way back to our start point via back streets.
The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time.
Walk fee: £2. No dogs please.
After-walk refreshment at the pub across the road from the car park.
I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
