Two Rivers Walk (Boroughbridge) - 7.5 miles
Details
Our first visit to Boroughbridge this year! An easy-to-get-to walk for many of our members, given its location in the A1 corridor and an easy, flat walk of a decent distance.
The walk not only includes two of Yorkshire’s great waterways but also two battlefields!
We will meet on the cobbled Hall Square with the war memorial (see photo) before walking down Fishergate and past the historic 17thc Crown Hotel, which used to provide stabling for 100 horses in the coaching days.
After crossing the site of the Battle of Boroughbridge, we find ourselves on a riverside trail following the river Ure to its confluence with the river Swale, which we then follow upstream towards the impressive Myton Bridge.
From here, we pick up more grassy paths and tracks and then a stretch of roadside walking (always good at this time of year!) brings us to the hamlet of Milby and thence back to the river Ure and a different route back to our start point.
Our route includes riverside trails, field edge paths and roadside walking.
The walk will be led at a steady pace: not too fast, not too slow. Please be ready to start walking at the advertised time.
Walk fee: £3. No dogs please. Bring a packed lunch/snacks/drinks with you.
After-walk refreshment at the 13thc Black Bull Inn at the top of Boroughbridge High Street.
Parking: use Back Lane car park, almost adjacent to our meeting point, car park fee by way of donation in the box at the entrance. Toilets available! Postcode is YO51 9AN.
I have no formal walk leader or first-aid qualifications and the Group does not have insurance. When you RSVP for any walk, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times. You are required to respect the walk leader and be mindful of the safety of others. Please keep to the pace of the group and don’t go off ahead even if you think you know the route.
