Friends of Pocahontas State Park

Every Thursday we stock the campground with fresh firewood. If we have extra time we may split some too! Keeping the parks campers supplied with lots of split firewood not only protects the park from invasive pests but also generates thousands of dollars which can be reinvested in the park. No experience required!! Plus all of the hours accumulate toward free park passes and other rewards. It's a fun job with great people and great socializing.

## Meeting Place: CCC Field

This week we are going to weed the mulched area around the laurels near the CCC field, with a plan to re-mulch this area soon afterwards. There is plenty of creeping charlie and weeds here to get rid of. This will allow us to re-establish that nice defined area of mulch that accentuates these trees.

In general, we typically work in the park managing the gardens, installing new plants, transplanting and weeding to keep the park looking good and healthy. No experience required. Bring your favorite garden tools, kneeling pad and gloves. You may also want to bring water and a light snack. As you accumulate volunteer hours it will allow you to earn a state-wide park pass and other rewards.

Every month the FoPSP Board, FoPSP volunteers and park staff meet to discuss and plan upcoming events, projects, initiatives and purchases as needed to support the mission of the Friends of Pocahontas State Park.

Attending is a great way to get involved and learn more about the park and its activities. The meeting will last 1.5 - 2 hrs depending on the depth of the agenda. New members welcome!

The goal is to collaborate on, and prioritize projects the group wants to take on in 2025. We'll begin working on plan details for the aquatic center, the CCC museum, the forthcoming wheel-chair accessible raised garden bed at the visitor's center, and the sign beds at the front entrance of the park. New and veteran members are welcome and encouraged to attend!
