Tool changes! New SSMS and the retirement of Azure Data Studio

We've all used SQL Server Management Studio in varying amounts ever since it replaced Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer 20 years ago. There have been things it's done well, and things it's done badly. In recent years we've seen Azure Data Studio come through, and we've had sessions about that.

And now we find that Azure Data Studio got retired last month, and will fall out of support at the end of February next year.

But on the flip side, we have a new version of SSMS (currently in preview), and VS Code is increasingly becoming a tool of choice for many things data.

So let's have a session about that. We'll look at new SSMS, and we'll look at VS Code as a replacement for ADS. We'll discuss some of things that ADS was particularly good at, and see where they're at.

If you haven't seen the new SSMS or used VS Code, that's fine. Come along and see what you could be doing. If you've jumped in as an early adopter, then come along - you might be able to show us all some of your tricks. And even if you're not expecting to move off your current version of SSMS, come along and see some features that you might not be aware of. I always enjoy seeing how other people use tools, because there is always space to grow. So come and grow!

There will be a URL for people who can't attend in person. Pizza from 12 to 12:30, and at 12:30 we'll jump into the session and the online people can join then.
