Adventure, Fun, and Social (JHB & Plettenberg Bay)

Join us on this beautiful Wilderness Village (Western Cape), Wilderness forest, and Wilderness beach 14.5-km loop trail which takes approximately three hours and forty minutes (possibly four hours). The hike is moderately difficult and requires a degree of hiking fitness. After the hike we'll have a tasty lunch at The Girls restaurant in Wilderness.

We start on the Wilderness main beach and meander through the Wilderness Village, up a sand road (lovely forest on either side, and some interesting, beautiful homes) to eventually overlook Wilderness lakes, the village, and the ocean. The walk carries on for some distance along the sand road and then we head into the Wilderness forest and eventually reach the Touw River. We continue alongside the Touw River, then we pass the Ebb and Flow North Rest Camp. We might have to pay a SanParks trail fee at the Half Collared Kingfisher Trail Gate. We then need to access the Ebb and Flow South Rest Camp, walk through it, cross the N2, and then head directly onto the Wilderness beach for the most beautiful 40 minute beach walk back to the Wilderness main beach where we started the hike.

We'll walk the route at a medium pace. Fast walking will be discouraged to enable everyone to take in the wonder of the scenery, the forest, the river, and the ocean and beach.

This is an a magnificent trail and has a bit of everything - beach, forest, a river, and mountain and lake views. Look out for dolphins playing in the waves and a variety of coastal birds.

Car Pooling
Suggest we all car pool and contribute to the cost of petrol to the driver. It's a long drive to the hike start point. So, folks traveling from Plett car pool and please contribute R80 towards petrol for the driver. Folks traveling from Knysna car pool and please contribute R50 for petrol to the driver.

Meeting time and place will be sent to all who have paid for the event by the payment date.

Only one guest per attendee. Additional guests should join the Meetup group, sign up of the annual $7.50 (+- R135) Adventure, Fun, Social Meetup group due / fee, then add themselves to this events attendee list.

What to bring -
Snacks / food for the hike, good quality walking shoes, two litres of water, sun hat, insect repellent, clothes for all four seasons, and something to keep you dry just in case it rains.

Join us on this BEAUTIFUL forest and coastline 9.6 km circular hike just outside Plettenberg Bay, which takes approximately five hours. The hike incorporates a section of the Harkerville hike, and the the Kranshoek Coastal hike.

Be sure you enjoy a VERY technical hike and are hiking fit (HIKE AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK). At least 50% of the hike is technical requiring bolder hopping, going down a steel ladder, across a very steep cliff rock face, between large rocks, up wooden steps, up steep sections with the aid of a rope, and so on.

The hike is suitable for hikers who are hiking fit, able to hike up to 10 kilometers of rugged, technical terrain, and hike an approximate elevation of 500 meters.

Due to the technical nature of this hike, we'll hike the route at a slow to medium pace. Fast walking will be discouraged to ensure the safety of all hikers.

The hike starting point is 35 minutes drive from Plett and 40 minutes drive from Knysna.

Car Pooling - Ignore the suggested amount to contribute to the driver as this hike is close to Plett and Knysna
Suggest we all car pool and contribute to the cost of petrol to the driver. It's a long drive to the hike start point.
