EVENT DESCRIPTION: We’ll be working on the fundamentals of multi-pitch technical climbing, with an eye to efficiency, teamwork, risk management, and longer multi-pitch climbs. The event will be on flat ground. Plan on practicing this material after the class, soon & often, until it will repeat under pressure. There are worlds of material we cannot cover in a short course.
TO ATTEND THIS EVENT:
- Graduates of the last (October, 2024) Lead Class have priority for this event, for the first week of sign-up. Let me know if you were in that class.
- You must have completed AMC Basic, AND, Anchors, AND Lead class (all three) to be eligible for this class. You must be a paid-up member of AMC.
- Review these fundamentals: two & three-point equalized anchors, quad anchor, munter-mule-overhand hitch (MMO), Klemheist hitch, and Acronym “EARNEST” for evaluating anchors (I’ve included “A” for “angle”).
- Put yourself on the “Wait-List”,
- I will screen the wait list, per this write-up.
- Attendance is at the sole discretion of leader based on past experience, team needs, technical skills and people skills. First to sign up is not given priority.
- Please note that Outing Leaders are Volunteers. We are not paid. We are not “the staff”. So please help out with the work (coiling and hauling ropes and gear, set-up and tear-down).
PLEASE DO NOT PUT YOURSELF ON THE WAITLIST UNLESS YOU ARE FIRMLY COMMITTED TO ATTENDING. SIGNING UP AND THEN BAILING CLOSE TO THE EVENT IS NOT FAIR TO OTHERS, WHO MAY WANT TO ATTEND.
REQUIRED GEAR:
Each attendee to bring;
folding chair, note taking stuff (pad & pen, or other), personal climbing gear and a rope. Please be prepared to take your own notes. Cameras ok. Please NO video.
ATTENDEES WILL BE SENT A PERSONAL GEAR LIST THAT MAY WELL INVOLVE SOME PURCHASES ON YOUR PART. YOU WILL NEED THESE FOR MULTI-PITCH CLIMBING.
WHEN YOU PUT YOURSELF ON THE WAITLIST, EMAIL DAVID WITH YOUR FULL NAME, AND EMAIL ADDRESS SO I CAN CONTACT THE GROUP IN NON-PUBLIC FORUM. OTHERWISE, YOU WON’T GET INFO NEEDED TO ATTEND.
IF YOU WERE IN THE LAST (Oct., 2024) LEAD CLASS, LET ME KNOW, SO I CAN GIVE YOU PRIORITY TO ATTEND, FOR THE FIRST WEEK OF SIGN -UP.
Questions, comments, and email may be sent to: David Anderson; [email protected],
MEET-UP LOCATION: To be announced (Maricopa County, Tonto Natl. Forest, just east of Mesa).
GET YOUR TONTO PASS, ONE PER CAR, BEFORE YOU COME OUT.
