Greetings Everyone - On Friday, Saturday and Sunday we will travel to Ohakune and stay at the Serac Ski Club, Ohakune. and do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.

The Tongariro Alpine Crossing offers a breathtaking journey through diverse landscapes, including volcanic terrain, emerald lakes, and panoramic vistas. It's a chance to challenge yourself physically while immersing in the raw beauty of New Zealand's wilderness. The experience promises unforgettable memories and a profound connection with nature.

On Sunday we will walk Kinloch to Kawakawa Bay (return).

Duration: About 8 hours hike including stops.
Distance: Approx 20km on Saturday and 9km on Sunday.
Difficulty: 2.75 on our 1-5 scale for day hikes.
What the scale means

Numbers of Attendees: 12
Costs: Car Poolers - $75 per person
Accommodation: $25per person per night
Group Dinners (2) and Group Breakfasts (2): $70 per person

● Important Notes:
This event will be moved to following weekend if the weather is bad.
You MUST bring clothes for winter trekking.

In case you don't read the DOC notes - bring toilet paper for the hike - there is none in the toilets.

All Auckland Global Trekkers organisers work on a strictly voluntary basis and hold NO responsibility or liability for any injury, or loss suffered during the events organised. Each person who participates accepts responsibility for making their own determinations and for their own safety, conduct and well being; recognising that there are hazards in attending group and outdoor activities and agrees to participate solely at their own risk.

● Preparation is the key to having a good day:

  • Check the weather
  • Do you have the correct clothing and shoes?.
  • Bring Food for your Breakfast/Lunch.
  • Do you know where the meeting places are?

- Any of the stops travelling South or
- Serac Ski Club. 4 Karo St, Ohakune.

● Carpooling:

  • I will inform you who is driving and who is a passenger and the suburbs the drivers are located in. You make contact and arrange.
  • Just ANSWER the RSVP question.

09:00 - Leave Auckland CBD - Each Car to decide time to leave.
10:30 - 11:00 - Village Cafe - Whatawhata - Breakfast/Morning Tea/Toilets
11:30 - 12:30 - Mangakara Nature Walk
13:20 - 14:20 - Stoked Eatery - Te Kuiti - Lunch/Toilets
16:30 - Arrive Serac Ski Club. 4 Karo St, Ohakune (approx)

● Bring:

  • Suitable Clothing for Spring or Winter conditions
  • Shoes suitable for track walking.
  • sun and emergency rain protection
  • Warm clothing plus gloves and hat.
  • first-aid items.
  • Swimming is optional at Kawakawa Bay.

● Notes:

  • It is safer and generally more fun to hike together as a group. We aim to do this with stops at all track junctions for group to regather.
  • We aim to leave exactly on time, and we will NOT wait for late people.
