Chattlab Makerspace

Every 3rd Saturday ChattLab Makerspace hosts a Repair Cafe event. Basically, if you have something broken and you think it's repairable, bring it in and we'll do our best to try to fix it. We do this as a free service to the Chattanooga community.

We are 100 Cherokee Blvd, and our entrance is on the side of the building next to Cherry Street Brewing. Just come on in and we'll see what you have!

Photogrammetry is the process of capturing images and stitching them together to create a digital model of the physical world. In this workshop we will use Unreal Engine's photogrammetry software, Reality Capture, to create detailed 3D models of real-world objects. This is the same technique used by major game and movie studios to import natural environments and objects to virtual spaces. We will explore capturing organic subjects, as well as mechanical ones.

Participants in this workshop will:

• Learn easily repeatable techniques for capturing a good set of images, a "scan"
• Become familiar with Reality Capture, and convert the scan to a 3D model
• Capture a scan of any object they like
• Process the scan into a usable 3D model (time permitting)
• Clean the resulting model and prepare it for 3D printing

Participants will need:

• - A basic understanding of operating computers and taking video. No previous 3D experience of any kind is required.
• - A digital video camera. An iPhone or Android with multiple rear-facing cameras is ideal. Better video = Better model.
• - OPTIONAL: A computer with a recent Nvidia GPU. This software requires a "NVIDIA graphics card at least 1GB VRAM and CUDA 3.0+ capabilities" We will only have two machines available for those who would like to process their own scan during class.

Tuesdays are our open meetings. All in the public are welcome to attend the meeting and get tours of the makerspace after the meeting events.

On the first Tuesday's of the month we give a brief presentation of what has happened over the past month and what things are coming up. Sort of a "current state of things" kinda thing.

On other Tuesdays we have a show and tell and try to do a brief demonstration of some sort. We're always looking for new demo topics, so if you have something that takes 20 minutes or less to present, let us know, or if you have a cool thing you made and want to do a 5 minute show and tell, we'd love to see it.

If you have heard about us and want to see what we're about, show up up a little early between 6pm and 7pm and someone will be there to show you around.

Please be so kind as to RSVP if you are going to make it so we know if someone is coming. Don't worry, you don't get a sales pitch. Most of us are introverted engineers and makers and aren't into sales. We are more interested in talking about cool stuff that we make or that you make.

NOTE! When you show up, go to the side door and ring the doorbell. It might take us a minute or 2 to walk over there to let you in.

Bring in your projects or your questions and work collaboratively with other local makers to make cool things. Come by Chattlab any time between 7-9 pm on Thursdays and We'll be there messing around with some nonsense. Bring in your own projects, questions, or skills and we'll all work to figure out how to make things happen.

Chattlab is local makerspace that has been around for over a decade. It has no paid employees and is supported entirely by the membership. It is located in the Business Development Center on North Shore. You can find us in the alley between Cherry Street brewing and the building we're in. Facilities include an electronics workstation, a wood shop, a metal shop, laser cutters and 3d printers, a computer lab, and much more.
