Saturday Assembly
Details
This event is in Headingley, a short bus ride or 20 minute walk from the city centre, please see details including travel information below.
We have selected Assembly Bar + Kitchen at the HEART Centre for a new type of event where we listen to a 5-10 minute talk about life, presented by a volunteer group member, followed by a social.
About the venue
Assembly Bar + Kitchen is in the Headingley Enterprise & Arts (HEART) Centre. This venue has a laidback, cafe type feel with no loud background music. Hot drinks, alcoholic drinks and food are available. To get to the venue, enter the HEART Centre then take a left and walk to the end of the corridor, the seating area is right through the door at the end.
Headingley town centre is a safe, busy student area with a very vibrant bar, pub and restaurant scene. There are plenty of places to go to after the event, I personally recommend the Get Baked bakery for sweet treats.
Getting here
Car: The best, nearest car park is at the Headingley Taps Pub. This is a paid car park but is cheap and shouldn't cost more than £2 to park for the length of the event. You don't need to drink at the pub to park there. Alternatively, there is some free on street parking nearby but keep in mind it can be difficult to find spots.
Bus: The venue is on possibly the busiest bus route in Leeds with busses leaving in both directions every few minutes. I suggest using Google Maps or Moovit to plan your journey, these will tell you which stop to go to and which service to catch.
Train: Unfortunately Headingley Rail Station isn't in the town centre itself, so whilst this is the nearest station prepare for a 10 minute walk to the venue. It may be easier to change from train to bus in Leeds city centre.
Have something to say? We need members like you!
We need volunteer members to give a talk at this event and at future events.
Some topics could be (but are not limited to):
• Confidence and self esteem
• Dealing with mental health struggles
• Navigating relationships with your friends and family
• Dealing with negative emotions like stress and grief
• Balancing life with working and studying
The talk could include lessons from your own experiences, your studies, your culture and religion (keeping in mind of course the audience will be multi-faith). I absolutely encourage anyone with little or no public speaking to join in. The talks could be 100% scripted or entirely 'from the heart'. Pre-made audio and video recordings would be allowed as long as they were prepared by you, specifically for this.
In return you'd get a free drink or snack (depending on the venue), co-host credit for the event and public speaking experience for your work or study persuits.
