Denver Free Spanish Network - Spanish Language Meetup

Hablamos español en un lugar genial. Let's meet in Olde Town Arvada. This renovated historic center is full of great restaurants and shops (including the best bakery around). We'll meet at the La Dolce Vita coffee shop at 5756 Olde Wadsworth Blvd. There is plenty of parking at a public lot on Grant and Webster just one block east. Also the G Line fast tracks train stops here as well and is just a short walk away from the coffee shop. All levels of Spanish are welcome, however a basic conversational level would be helpfuf. We'll meet on Tuesdays from 9:30 am to 11 am. Please RSVP.

Practice your conversational Spanish while walking the 2 paved miles around Washington Park. All levels welcome. Rain, heavy snow or extreme cold will cancel. Persons may attend weekly without signing up, so if you don't see many RSVPs that may be the reason.

This will be a 1-1/2 hour Zoom meeting. Every week we have a new "pregunta del día" and a "lectura (reading) del día" that we take turns answering, reading and/or explaining. The host will email both to those who have RSVP'd a few hours beforehand. All levels are welcome, even if you wish to just listen in.

Everyone interested in improving their Spanish is welcome to attend this group. Meetings begin at 6:30PM. Parking is behind the coffee shop on the alley. Please buy something to support the coffee shop and to keep the use of the space free.

Our book for November 2024 will be El laberinto de la soledad by Octavio Paz, Mexico, 1950, 106 pages. English translation: The Laberinth of Solitude.

Description: In The Labyrinth of Solitude, Octavio Paz offers an extended meditation on Mexico's long struggle to clarify its identity and come to terms with its history through analyses of culture, gender, religion, economics, literature and myth.

In this group we read the book independently during the month prior to the meeting, in Spanish or English. The discussion will be in Spanish.

December 2024 (meeting on the 19th): Las 10 aventuras imperdibles del Quijote, Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, 1605/1615 (Kindle or Nook book of excerpts from the original).

January 2025 (meeting on the 23rd): El invencible verano de Liliana: una hermana en busca de justicia, Cristina Rivera Garza, México, 2023.

February 2025 (meeting on the 27th): Canciones para el incendio, Juan Gabriel Vásquez, Colombia, 2019.

This is an opportunity to meet in person and converse over coffee, empanadas and or desserts. Feel free to bring an article, book, photo, or cultural topic to discuss in groups of 3 or 4 at your level. You can also join a game of Scrabble en Español for an hour or so. If you are able, please plan on purchasing something to eat or drink to thank our hosts at the restaurant for being our ongoing meeting place.
