Inca Trail Itinerary : Permit Required 4D/3N -- Longer, busier, less elevation, more ascents and descents & some of the sites have working toilets and showers
Lares Trek Itinerary: 3D/2N -- shorter, less crowded, more elevation and rustic camp site
Describes the differences between the 2 options
Cusco Stay (Train/Bus option to Machu Picchu): Explore Cusco and Surrounding area while others are hiking.

You decide which option you want when you put your deposit down.
