What we’re about

What is contra dance, you ask? Contra dance is a fun, playful, inclusive and welcoming dance done all over the country - usually to live music. It combines freedom and fun with rhythm and structure. Contra is easy to learn. Simple and exchangeable moves are learned and once learned, they can be arranged into a pattern (known as a dance) that repeats, allowing dancers to connect with the music, connect with other dancers, and focus on having fun. This video link below lets you hear some points of view on why people dance and what it is like, while seeing some dances in motion.
Contra allows people to dance fairly simply if they want, or to get fancier with flourishes for those who want.
Newcomers lesson is at 6:30.
Music varies some with the bands, but is often some variation on Old Time Country, Celtic or Cape Breton Style.
