About The Teacher:
Hae Kwang Sunim started training at the age of 18 in Thailand. He has taken full seminary and in temple training in S. Korea, with graduated ordinations (including Bhikkhu ordination) under Patriarch Kun Sunim. He spent over 25 years distilling the I.P.Q.G. deepest and hardest to grasp teachings into a simplified language so it can be taught and effectively applied directly in daily life. In 2005 (2549), the 19th Headquarters in Korea appointed Venerable Hae Kwang Sunim as Director of Bo Kwang Zen Center Palm Springs, U.S.A. In 2013, the Western Bhikkhus Council nominated Hae Kwang Sunim 교구장 Kyo Goo Jahng of all American-European Temples (closest english translation: North American-European Oversight Head / Bishop / Director).

I first started partaking in the classes when I was still working over 10 years ago. I found that the Saturday morning classes were my reset button that allowed me to refresh and be ready for my gruelling week ahead.
When ever I found myself in distress engaging in the classes and applying the learned grounding practises that Sunim teaches became my lifeline to tranquility.
Last year with my cancer diagnosis, I was able to truly test the Qi Gong class practise and tools shared in a big way, and I can confidently say that they not only sustained me but provided me with the comfort and stamina to get through my treatments with calm and ease.
The Qi Gong practise along with Sunim’s compassionate teachings always leave me feeling like I am walking on clouds, and that my body has had a inner cleansing - a restorative generative feeling that no doubt supports my continued healing in this cancer journey that I now find myself in.
I do not know how I would have been able to cope without the classes, without the techniques shared and without Sunim’s compassionate presence.
Sincerely hope that more people will have the opportunity to access to this modality of healing that truly is empowering and life changing.

I hope you are staying warm in this winter weather. Just wanted to say thank you for the teachings yesterday. It’s beautiful how the universe works and provides just what you need. I was really struggling the few days before class. It felt as if I was in an internal tornado but paralyzed at the same time. I went through my tool box/Rolodex of practices but was still struggling to find that space, that space between thoughts. But through the offerings of your teachings and the space created by the community, I was able to add more tools to the tool box and felt guided and supported while doing so. So a heartfelt thank you to you and the community. The knowing that pain/challenges are our greatest professor if we allow it, becomes much more accessible when the light and love from others is shared in support of the journey.

What you need to know:## Can a 12 Minutes a Day Meditation Practice Make a Difference?
Meditation induces a heightened state of awareness and focused attention. Various studies demonstrate the practice can help relieve stress and manage anxiety, reduce inflammation, and improve memory and attention to boot.
Brain scans have shown that meditation makes the brain bigger, expanding its essential parts and strengthening its connections. The practice has also been found to weaken the amygdala, the part of the brain responsible for negative emotions and the creation of trauma.
## 12 Minutes a Day Meditation Practice – 8 Week Study
Studies by Dr. Andrew Newberg, director of research at the Marcus Institute of Integrative Health and a physician at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, showed some incredible benefits in subjects that meditated just 12 minutes a day:
Subjects with memory problems on a 12-minute meditation program over eight weeks experienced significant increases in blood flow to the prefrontal cortex and other brain areas. Even their memory improved. In another study he conducted with adults whose average age was sixty-two, the results revealed notable improvement trends in mood, anxiety, tension, and fatigue after eight weeks. All these were measured through neuropsychological tests, and they correlate to changes in blood flow to the brain.

- The abundance of clarified energy and inner stillness generated by this practice supports great mental clarity, and nourishes both intuition and creativity. As our intelligence becomes rooted in a connection to the inner body, it widens and deepens in increasingly wonderful ways.
- As we deepen in our practice, we become aware of more subtle realms of Being, and begin to experience, directly, our interconnectedness with All-That-Is.
Near the end of each class the goal is for participants to attain the full ‘relaxation response’ and it’s that response that helps release the feel-good endorphins. Why is this important? Endorphins encourage white blood cells and white blood cells help the body fight infection and disease.
According to Dr. Benson, “repeated activation of the relaxation response can reverse sustained problems in the body and mend the internal wear and tear brought on by stress.” (Ref: Center for Women’s Healthcare, Weil Medical College of Cornell University.)
As Dr. Mehmet Oz writes in his best-selling book ‘Staying Young’: “Qigong allows us to cope with the day to day struggle of being human – it can help us stretch and stay loose and balanced in both mind and body.” On the Oprah Winfrey show in November, he simply put it this way, "If you want to be healthy and live to be 100, do Qigong."
IMPORTANT: Please be sure to find a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed for these classes. Have a comfortable mat, light blanket and three pillows nearby.
IMPORTANT: Playing 90 minutes of qigong or deeply relaxing background music during the class (see below) is an important part of this overall class. Please have soft music ready to play.
