The Art of Gathering, by Priya Parker | We're revisiting this one!
Details
What perfect timing for this book! With the silly season upon us, now is the time to consider how we are connecting during all of the gatherings we may be attending over the holiday period. This will also be a great time to look ahead to how we can nurture in-person connection in 2025.
Note: We first discussed this book in January of 2022, but we've evolved so much as a club that I just had to bring this one back as a way to close 2024 in true Vanguard style!
Join us in December to discuss "The Art of Gathering: How we meet and why it matters", by Priya Parker.

Message me to attend in person, as space is limited! Otherwise, join us on Zoom π And remember, you're still encouraged to attend even if you don't have time to read the book. #leisuretimeisaprivilege
This meeting will be facilitated by a full-time Life Coach (yours truly) and former university educator with over a decade of international experience in facilitating discussions across groups from various cultural backgrounds and beliefs. We value inclusivity π³οΈββ§οΈπ³οΈβππ€πβ€οΈβπ½ and insist on respectful discussion. We are not a 'positive vibes only' crew. We invite you to bring your WHOLE self to the discussion! Wanna suss me out ahead of time to see if we'll 'gel'? Then feel free to have a snoop here βΊ:

From the book jacket:
Hosts of all kinds, this is a must-read! --Chris Anderson, owner and curator of TED
From the host of the New York Times podcast Together Apart, an exciting new approach to how we gather that will transform the ways we spend our time together--at home, at work, in our communities, and beyond.
In The Art of Gathering, Priya Parker argues that the gatherings in our lives are lackluster and unproductive--which they don't have to be. We rely too much on routine and the conventions of gatherings when we should focus on distinctiveness and the people involved. At a time when coming together is more important than ever, Parker sets forth a human-centered approach to gathering that will help everyone create meaningful, memorable experiences, large and small, for work and for play.
Drawing on her expertise as a facilitator of high-powered gatherings around the world, Parker takes us inside events of all kinds to show what works, what doesn't, and why. She investigates a wide array of gatherings--conferences, meetings, a courtroom, a flash-mob party, an Arab-Israeli summer camp--and explains how simple, specific changes can invigorate any group experience.
The result is a book that's both journey and guide, full of exciting ideas with real-world applications. The Art of Gathering will forever alter the way you look at your next meeting, industry conference, dinner party, and backyard barbecue--and how you host and attend them.

At this meetup, we will discuss some of Parker's insights around human connection, organisation, etc., and how these insights relate to our own lives. Love the book? Hate the book? No time to read the book? You are all welcome!
Looking forward to seeing everyone π
