Fidelio is an opera by Ludwig van Beethoven about a woman who disguises herself as a man to rescue her husband from an unjust imprisonment.

The opera takes place in an 18th-century Spanish prison near Seville, during a time of political upheaval following the French Revolution.

Plot
Leonore works to rescue Florestan from death in the prison. Pizarro vows to murder Florestan when he hears that a king's minister will visit to investigate claims of Pizarro's cruelty. Leonore and Rocco eventually enter the cell to rescue Florestan.
