- Musee Champollion (NEW!) - Egyptology deciphering of The Rosetta StoneVallier - Libération, Grenoble
== Introduction / Background ==
Our first visit to a new local museum renovated/created by the Department:
A most recently opened museum covering the life and works and accomplishments of the brothers Champollion (born and studied in Grenoble/Isere) and their contribution to modern Egyptology including the translation/deciphering of The Rosetta Stone.
"Installed in the historic family property (chateau) of Champollion in Village of Vif, the Champollion Museum presents the life and work of Jean-François, famous decipherer of hieroglyphs, and his older brother Jacques-Joseph, also renowned intellectual. Within the house, the reconstructed spaces, personal objects and work notes plunge you into the intellectual effervescence of the early 19th century. EGYPTOMANIA
THE JEAN-MARCEL HUMBERT COLLECTION
Nov 5 , 2022 --> Until ---> NOV 27, 2023
"Egyptomania refers to the phenomenon of fascination with ancient Egypt and more specifically all forms of creation inspired by the culture of the Pharaohs of the Nile. These Western reinterpretations have been expressed for more than two centuries in the fields of spirituality, decorative arts, literature, entertainment, cinema, architecture, etc. Often very far from ancient culture, they respond to the pleasure from fear, in search of the irrational and mystery, to the construction of a representation of a fantasy Orient."== Additional Links to the Museum ==

Weather permitting, hopefully we can enjoy some of the outdoor garden space as well; feel free to bring light fare for a team-time picnic.

A photography Exhibit:
"Jacques Henri Lartigue's gaze spans the 20th century . Born into a wealthy family, he took advantage of the benefits of his condition to travel the world throughout his life. It was his love of sport that led him to discover the Alps at the time of the first ski resorts of Saint-Moritz and Chamonix on the eve of the First World War. He was not yet twenty years old. Photographing the personalities of the time that his social life brought him into contact with, he was particularly attached to portraits of his close friends, to whom he devoted large series.
