Name: Flinders Peak Circuit - not for slow hikers

Trail Notes: Total distance is around 10 km, including a 7KM walk-in on fire trails, then a climb up the South Ridge along a old track. This route is more moderate than the standard tourist route up but does have the same hard bits towards the end.
I would like us to keep reasonably fast speed.

A little bit of scrambling skill is required and ability to walk on rocks. There is a section called the Chimney which requires some scrambling skill. Please consider that it is necessary to have a certain level of fitness to enjoy the walk and travel at higher speed. The maximum elevation is 680 m with a total climb of 677.

The hike starts at the Flinders Plum Picnic area. Let’s meet at Flinders Plum Picnic Area at 7:30am ready to go

There are toilet facilities and BBQ facilities at Flinders Plum Picnic Area.

The upper slopes of Flinders Peak provide spectacular views of craggy peaks, the Bremer River catchment and the Scenic Rim. The top offers a 360 degree view, with the sight of all the mountains and valleys around.

Must bring: water (3 litres), snacks, lunch; hiking gear: a light backpack; hiking ankle supportive boots; first aid kit; insect repellent, sunscreen and a big smile. Wear long trousers and long sleeves, a hat; light raincoat. Bring walking poles if you like to use them.

Directions: The hike starts at the Flinders Plum Picnic area. Take Mount Flinders Road off the Ipswich-Boonah Road near Peak Crossing.

Lifts: if you would like to travel with someone, offer a lift or ask for a lift, please put your request on the comments. Consider to offer $10.00- $15.00 to the driver as a contribution, depending on the distance. You may choose the most convenient location for you and the driver as a pick up point. Drivers and passengers may exchange telephone numbers for organisational purpose.

Please make sure to have with you a change of clothes and clean footwear as a courtesy to your driver. Carry with you spare plastic bags to put away muddy boots or wet clothes.

Phone reception and Internet: Plan your trip in advance and it is a good idea to carry a map of the area in your car. Consider that if your GPS runs on Internet it may lose the phone signal. The phone coverage may be also poor and may be difficult to send and receive messages.

Please RSVP if you are genuinely interested in this walk. Please make sure to adjust your RSVP two days in advance if you realise you no longer can attend so the Group doesn’t use extra resources. $2 donation towards costs would be appreciated.
