- {Colorado} Skiing / Snowboarding - Winter Park - Ikon Pass Resort!Needs location
With the Ikon Pass offering so many different mountains and the snow already being fantastic this year in Colorado, we are heading to Winter Park! We had fun the last time we went, and I have a good feeling this time will be the same!
For the uninitiated, Winter Park consists of three interconnected mountain peaks — Winter Park, Mary Jane, and Vasquez Ridge. There is something for every type of rider! And being only 90 minutes from Denver airport, you can get there in no time!
We are staying at the Lion's Gate Lodge - nestled 10 minutes from the resort and a short walk to downtown Winter Park (where the dinner restaurants and nightlife is).
We have three units, and each unit has three bedrooms. Each unit can sleep 8 people but we will keep that at 6 people per unit so no one is in the living room. We will save the living room in case someone snores, lol. So, we have a total of 18 spots.
We have the Lodge from Friday 12/6 until the morning of Friday 12/13. You can stay any portion of that week. The cost is $250 for Friday to Monday and if you stay over, $350 no matter which dates you stay beyond Monday. If you have extra time and can stay a bit later, definitely try to visit Copper Mountain, A-Basin and/or Eldora Mountain, which are also part of Ikon Pass. (There are also a bunch of Epic Pass mountains about 1.5 hours away.)
The funds we put together covers lodging and some snacks/drinks to share. For meals you can dine out or pick up stuff to cook.
Please budget for flight to Denver, shuttle to the lodge, food, and miscellaneous stuff (T-shirt, anyone?). The free shuttles in town are really easy to use (10 minutes to get to the mountain) and we are actually staying in town, near restaurants and all! :)
Getting there: Winter Park is about 90 minutes from Denver International Airport (DIA). Just about everyone flies there. From the airport you can take one of the many shuttles, rent a car or even an Amtrak. Winter Park has info HERE if you need clarification.
How to confirm your spot: This trip is posted on many Meetup groups. I am centralizing everyone going into one group. If you want to go you must RSVP and pay via my main group. Spots go to first paid, regardless of when you RSVP. Click HERE to go to my main group where you can RSVP and get payment instructions.
- Meteors, Valley Of Fire, Red Rock Cyn, for a 3 day weekend-Camping-hikes &more^^rr Location is approximate. Location ONLY for Attendees. Camping for Red Rock/Valley Of Fire, Las Vegas, NV
Valley Of Fire is stunning!
Red Rock is equally so.And we get to camp and explore both.
Easy Camping!! Perfect for First-Timers

Click here for a nice vid of Red Rock CanyonIn addition to Valley of Fire AND Red Rock Cyn Dec 21 and 22 is the peak for the Ursids Meteor Shower
If you have not heard of either . . . that's because they are outside of California. We have so much here that we often can overlook what is right next-door and still super close.
The other reason you may not of heard of them . . . Valley of Fire is a Nevada State Park and not a National Park. State Parks are assumed to not be as good as National Parks.
Red Rock is a National Conservation Area . . . again . . . assumed to not be as good since not designated as National Park. The reality is BOTH are stunning. And the designations make them more accessible.
Valley Of Fire has "The Fire Wave." Similar "The Wave" in UT.
This event is tent camping (not RV or Van). You do need to provide your own gear and food. (more on that down below). We are staying outside of Red Rock on a private non-federal, non-blm site.
The general itinerary/ schedule is:
Fri-
Arrive when you can. Anytime AFTER 2PM. People will be arriving up to midnight. I will be away to greet you and show you where to go. Along with whoever else is at the campfire at that time.Sat- Valley Of Fire - - This is the main fun.
- Drive Mouse’s Tank Road towards Fire Wave and take lots of photos along the way.
- Now to our "main hike." We will get there early before the crowds. We will do a loop of four hikes together. Fire Wave, Pink Pastel Slot Cyn, Domes Slot, White Domes. They call it the 7 wonders loop. I do not know what the other three wonders are.
- After that we make it to Fire Cyn Vista (this is a view only)
- Then two short hikes of Rainbow Vista trail (this has natural arches)
- & Mouse's Tank trial. This has 2000 year old petroglyphs all along the cyn walls.
- A quick zip to Atlatl Rock (more petroglyphs)
- And lastly visit the Beehives and take tons more pix there.
- Elephant Rock is also an option to drive to.
- Get back to camp and we have a fab campfire all nite.
- Dec 21st is the peak of the Ursids Meteor Shower. We have a show instore for us in the dark desert skies.
Sunday Schedule will be Red Rock Cyn.
- Easy vista points and views
- Medium (two or three smaller hikes)
- Hard hike (for the hardcore among us.
- We will break to groups accordingly by who wants to do what.
- Get back to camp and we have a fab campfire all nite.
Monday: Head home.
- For those only staying Sat & Sun eve. Simply pack up Sun AM and do Red Rock with us and then continue home.
Time of year:
BOTH Valley of Fire and Red Rock Nat Rec Area are MISERABLE in summer.
Daytime high will get up to 70 degrees. Perfect for hikes. Nighttime low will get to around 45 degrees. Just bring some extra blankets and you will fine.Another benefit of the time of year is Christmas is the 24th/25th. Many folks can take Monday 23rd off super easy to make it a 3 day weekend.
RSVP does not guarantee your spot. Payment is the only way to secure you place.
CLICK HERE for Payment link (per person 4 days, 3 nights)
OR
( https://www.paypal.com/instantcommerce/checkout/9HBBWT977EP24 )Question: What if I have a +1 or +whatever?
Cost is Per Person. Just do the payment link a 2nd or 3rd time.Question: When do I have to pay by?
- The event is limited in size.
- Our events always fill up. And with lower limit . . . it will fill faster.
- When it fills the payment link is removed. If you did not pay you are not attending.
- The short answer is pay now to 100% secure your spot.
- Refunds issued up to 2 weeks before event start date. So you have till Dec 6 to cancel.
- If cancel after Dec 6 receive 100% credit towards a future event.
Question: What if I stay two nights. Is it less?
No. But since we have for Sun night you can stay as late as you want on Sunday before packing up. It gives us flexibility. Why not stay till Mon?Question: Dogs?
This is a very dog friendly trip.
Dogs OK on the trails and in camp.Carpool? We help facilitate carpools for attendees. Carpool info

Why not host some events. Great way to meet people!!!
Got an idea for an event or an event you want to do?
NOW is your chance!!!!
It's a new year coming up. AND you want it to be different than the last.
Do you find events and think: "Gee, . . . I like this event but want it closer, or on a different day, or just a little earlier or later."If you post the event you pick the time, and place and date that in convenient to you. As well as pick the content/topic/focus of the event.
What a win!!!
This meetup is a giant collaboration. In that vein we welcome new organizers.
These are basic rules all organizers must abide by and work within. Mostly they are all about showing a respect for the members.
Best Practices or the rules simplified.
- No Emailing and no using the "discussion" box
- No outside links
- All events are Hosted. There are no "no host" events.
- List any money costs in the first 2 or 3 lines.
- Special note about Repeat Events.
- Special note about city or area in title
Not too many rules. Not too complicated. They all have to do with respect for the membership.
1.) No Emailing AND No Discussion Box
The one BIG BIG rule I have is NOBODY messages the general membership via the email feature. Post the event and let Meetup send out all the notices. The discussion box is just another way for you to send spam. So that is closed, and only for the use and management by and of the (main) organizer only.2.) No Outside links:
No links to other meetups. No links to other social media (no instagram, no eventbrite, no twitter, no facebook etc).
For instance: Do not just put a Facebook link. Instead copy all the wording from FB and put the words. Plain and simple; Link's are lazy. So don't be lazy!!!
You want members to click the RSVP. So you don't give any other option that may lead them away from the event page.
*** If you "need" outside links of any sort: Contact the lead organizer and just make sure ok. It usually is. Just ask first.3.) Meetup does not allow "No Host" events. You or the listed Event Host will be there and present. You will welcome and make sure people can find you or the meetup area. And that people will be able to actually be able to meet others from meetup. If members in attendance report you are not attending your events you will not be allowed to continue to post events. If you want to post an "informational" event then go and post it on Craigslist.
4.) List money costs in the first few lines.
This has to do with email notices. The email version of the event sends the first few lines of the writeup. If it's free, . . .say it's free. If it costs . . . say it early so people have the info.
If it is free it is best to include the word "Free" in the title.5.) Events can repeat no more than every three weeks, unless you get permission ahead of time.
When making a repeating event DO NOT USE the auto-scheduling feature. After your event occurs log on and list it again.
The Auto-pilot is a problem as people forget they listed. They don't show up and people do. The complaints end up being filed against the group and not the organizer that bailed.
If you use the "repeat" feature it will be edited and the future ones edited off.6.) List the city or area in the title. You get better turnout and less flakes.
There are some general guidelines to making great events
General Guidelines:- Great wording
- Great Pix
- 4 weeks notice is best
Cost of posting events?
We do not charge for access to the group. We only ask that the event is good decent social and creates community.TO BE AN ORGANIZER ON THIS GROUP YOU NEED TO DO THREE THINGS:
#1 RSVP to this event.
#2 SEND A DIRECT MESSAGE TO THE LEAD ADMIN ON THE GROUP WHO CAN CHANGE YOUR STATUS TO BE ABLE TO POST AN EVENT. Click this link to send a Direct Message:
https://secure.meetup.com/messages/?new_convo=true&member_id=273063881INCLUDE IN YOUR MESSAGE:
- If you are an Event Organizer, Asst Organizer, Co-Organizer or Organizer of any meetup groups . . . List those. Links to the group is preferred so I can see what your events look like there.
- AND some links to current or past events.
- If you do organize things . . . but not on meetup . . . list links to those instead.
- If you have not organized anything before . . . Include links to samples of what you want to do or what you are thinking of.
#3 FILL OUT OUR GOOGLE FORM Click this link to fill out the form
https://forms.gle/d1yNnhUiNP6CzyCw7Question: Why do I have to do all three thing?
Answer: For us to have you post to the group we need to know (approximately) you wish to post. AND . . . we also need to trust you . . . AND . . . We want to get an idea of what kind of organizer you will be.These three things combined help us to do that. Do just one, or the other or not all three . . . Sorry . . . that's our rule. Do step One, Two and Three. On your group you can make your own rules. On ours . . . please respect ours.
Still got questions? Click this link to send a Direct Message:
https://secure.meetup.com/messages/?new_convo=true&member_id=273063881Organizing events is the best way to meet people.
We pay for the group and you don't have to. You post events and get attendees and have great social fun.
What a win!!!
note: the date of this event keeps moving to a date in the future so the event stays active and editable. And your RSVP stay active.
We will do a Zoom on that date and time and you can ask your questions in person or ask how do I organize things.
See you at the zoom . . . OR . . . forget about the zoom and send a DM/Direct Message
It's your choice.
Of course the best choice is to be able to post events and create good decent social.
So what are you waiting for?

- Galapagos Islands Expedition! Untouched Nature in all its Splendor! Small GroupLos Angeles International Airport, Los Angeles, CA
It's a Meetup . . . in the Galápagos!!
This Meetup Event is for the nature lovers, for the curious explorers and the adventurers who want to experience nature in all its splendor & diversity.
The Galápagos Islands are a volcanic archipelago in the Pacific Ocean, considered one of the world's foremost destinations for wildlife-viewing. It's a place where lizards swim, birds walk, and humans — for once — don't take center stage. In 1835 a 26-year-old Charles Darwin introduced the Galápagos Islands to the world with his theory of evolution.
As amazing as you think the Galápagos Islands would be, they exceed all expectations of our group in 2023! That sea lion above in our group photo is not a prop! It was very real, ready to play and pose for a picture. You can see sea lions, giant lizards and many other exotic and friendly creatures, waddling on the streets, playing in the sand or just chilling (sun bathing) on a bench!
We will explore and experience:
- The famous Galapagos penguin and blue footed boobies. Swim with sea turtles and sea lions.
- Tortuga Bay Beach for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking or surfing with unique marine life.
- Get close and personal with the giant tortoises roaming in their natural habitat
- Explore the Tintoreras islet, home of the white tip sharks and its shark tunnel.
- Visit the Charles Darwin Station, to observe giant tortoises and their babies and learn about this majestic animal.
- Snorkeling around the shore of the Tijeretas Bay
- Boat ride to Kicker Rock with snorkeling
- Sailing to Santa Cruz Island.
- Sail to Isabela Island, the largest of the archipelago.
- Boat tour to Tuneles De Cabo Rosa, a formation of series of above ocean arches, creating an unique snorkeling experience.
- Explore cavernous underground Lava Tunnels.
- Tour the Galapagos rainforest habitat
- San Cristobal Island with visit to the Interpretation Center
- Visit to Los Gemelos, a haven for bird watchers!
- Visit Sierra Negra and Chico Volcano. A 10-mile challenging hike (for those who are interested)
- El Trapiche to see the old methods of extracting cane juice, roasting coffee beans and techniques of distillery.
- Quito with a full day tour and visit to the Equator line
- Visit to the town of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno.

- Everest Base Camp Trek. Discover the land & people. The challenge and adventure.LAX, Los Angeles, CA
This is definitely a bucket list type of trip. It embodies adventure and the romance of traveling to far off places. It is also tempered with safety and do-ability. The actual dates are Apr 25-May 11, 2024 and the trip is 17 days/16 nights.
We have done this adventure twice already, in 2021 and 2022, and everybody had a blast! CLICK HERE to see attendee photos of the EBC trekWE HAVE MADE CHANGES BASED UPON EXPERIENCE.
- We are ADDING Yoga and Meditation, and a local expert TO BE WITH US to guide in Buddhist practice and local culture.
- We are ADDING two days while going up to better acclimatize.
- We are ADDING a HELLICOPTER FLIGHT from our highest camp back to start point AND REMOVING two days going down by taking the flight.
To clarify. We are NOT going up to the top of Everest (29,000’)
We are going to Everest Base Camp at 17,600’
Our starting elevation will be in Lukla at 9,400’You need to be of average or better fitness. If you can manage walking 3-6 hours a day, up and down a hill while carrying a light daypack, you will be OK! If you are very fit and work out and train, you will be at the front.
Professional guides to lead, and Yaks to carry our gear are included. And a Yak Herder too!!
All that is left for us to carry is our water, snacks and camera.
But I don't have the needed gear?!
Sleeping bag and parka, rated to -10C are provided and walking poles too!Does this include food?
All meals on the trek potion are included. What is lodging like?
We are sleeping in a series of "Tea Houses" along the route. You will have a bed in a shared room with roommate (from the group). Sorry, a solo room will not be available on this trip. We will pair up everybody. How dangerous is this? What if I get sick or hurt?
This is NOT the summiting Everest with people dying from bad choices. We will be walking on an established, well used trail the entire time, and NOT on snow or ice. Stats from past years show that 30,000 people a year do the EBC Trek. With all that said, . . . our trip INCLUDES emergency insurance. We are also Certified Wilderness First Responders.
Plain and simple, safety is our primary goal. We will have an experienced guide and porters, and we will be along the entire way.How much does this cost?
Everest Base Camp Trip $3750 - 17 Days, land only (airfare not included)
For this trip we don’t offer single occupancy and we match you with a roommate if you don't have one.We might be able to organize a group airfare from Los Angeles (LAX):**

As a meetup group we have gone to EBC, Kilimanjaro, Machu Picchu, Galapagos and other bucket list place. Come alone and leave with new lifelong friends.
Live the adventure instead of only dreaming it!
- Meetup on Orient Express. Spring in Paris Venice Prague Vienna Budapest IstanbulSNA - Santa Ana Airport, Santa Ana, CA
The Orient Express...you have heard it many times. The romance, the mystery, the adventure! Of course with the opulence too!
The original Orient Express is but a memory and our journey will mirror elements of the original route, crossing Europe from Paris to Istanbul.
This trip brings back the romance and adventure of train travel, along with the mystery of new cities and countries in a special way - adding value and removing inflated expense of excessive opulence by replacing it with service and contemporary refinement.
We retrace the route of the original Orient Express, using modern Night Trains, High Speed Day Trains, as well as some short hop flights.
Our route takes us to:
Paris - - - Venice - - - Vienna - - - Prague - - - Budapest - - - IstanbulIncluded:
- Train transportation between 4 cities.
- 2 nights on an actual night train with sleeping compartment
- Air transportation Paris / Venice and Budapest / Istanbul
- 11 nights in First Class hotels with best central locations
- Breakfast every day
- Some lunches/dinners
- All transfers to/from hotels, train stations or airports
- Guided tours in each city
- Entrances to many museums.
- even a wine tasting along the way.
- and more...
We travel as a group, and also have the flexibility of hop-on, hop-off tours and museum passes with "skip the line" so you enjoy a complete independence. It is all included in the price!
You are free to do your own thing, cater to your special interests, visit other sights and locations in the cities, while still being guided and helped with all the arrangements. A balance of independence when you want it and being included in all group activities when you prefer it.The idea is: come alone, meet new like-minded people and make lifelong memories . . . without being stuck with the "one size fits all" tour formula.
Here is a basic thumbnail:
PARIS - 3 nights
· Evening fight to Venice
VENICE - 1 night
· Night Train to Vienna
VIENNA - 1 night
· Evening train to Prague
PRAGUE - 2 nights
· Night Train to Budapest
BUDAPEST - 1 night
· Late evening flight to Istanbul
ISTANBUL - 3 nights.
· Sleeper Cabins on the trains and First Class hotels in each city w/ very central locations. What was The Orient Express?
It was long-distance passenger train service that began in 1883 with the original endpoints being Paris to Istanbul. The original name became synonymous with intrigue and was a showcase of luxury with comfort at a time when traveling was still rough and dangerous. In Istanbul the Pera Palace Hotel, built in 1892, was the accommodations at the terminus. And we are staying in it!
The original Orient Express ceased operation in 1977 and we are not using the original old train. It no longer exists.
EVERY aspect of this trip is epic.
- Visit picturesque and storied cities.
- Enjoy trains and experience the enchantment of the rails.
- In the end you will have visited 6 countries: France, Italy, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary and Turkey!
The tour starts in Paris on May 29 and ends in Istanbul on June 11.
$5490 total cost per person, double occupancy.
