What we’re about
Literature and Lapdogs hosts online and in-person events for literature enthusiasts.
Our online events include slow readings of classical and contemporary literature, and lectures and discussions for major authors and their works. We co-host in-person book and film events at the Center at West Park (www.centeratwestpark.org).

Our Story
In July 2024, I started offering literature courses and book group meetups online. Over the year, there have been some really wonderful experiences and we want to thank everyone for the engagement.
Looking ahead to the next twelve months, in collaboration with a few friends and associates, we’ve identified several exciting opportunities, which we’re now ready to share.
As some of you know, a beloved family friend lost her 17-year-old son in a tragic traffic accident two weeks ago. Ben, the young man who died trying to help someone in a dangerous situation, was also a huge animal lover, and we wanted to do something to celebrate that aspect of his too-short life.
We started fundraising for the organization after a few months, but this website is part of a new effort to expand Literature and Lapdogs as a formal entity so we can continue to grow our course offerings and do something concrete to promote social justice. We are in the process of creating a 501 (c) so that we can start formally raising funds to support dogs in need around the world.
As we explain on our About page, the mission of Literature and Lapdogs to support dogs in need around the world. By soliciting donations for our events, our book groups, lecture series, and writing groups, we plan to help foster several dogs and also offer funds to on-the-ground charitable organizations, as outlined on.
Currently, we’re sponsoring Pippa and four puppies whose names we have yet to decide. One is called Hannah. There is another girl to name and two boys. We are also really keen to support both Cuddly and the 15/10 Foundation.
We’re going to use our blog space and our social media presence to share stories about these lovely pups, and the ones that we have at home, as well as fun facts about literature and other topics close to the heart of this organization.
If you haven’t already checked out our current event offerings, we hope you’ll take a minute to see what’s on offer. Please feel free to make suggestions for books or authors you’d like to discuss in a lecture series.
Remember that if you donate to the organization, funds are now going towards the care of dogs in need.
