Trauma-Informed Principles for Yoga and other Body-Based Movement Teachers

Details
### The Future of Movement & Healing is Trauma-Informed.
Trauma doesn’t just live in the mind—it resides in the body. It shapes how we move, breathe, and experience safety in the world.
Yet, in many movement and wellness spaces, trauma is often overlooked. Cueing, language, hands-on adjustments, and even the setup of a room can either foster safety or unknowingly activate a response rooted in past experiences.
This is why trauma-informed care is essential.
Being trauma-informed is not just about knowing what trauma is—it’s about embodying a mindset of awareness, sensitivity, and compassionate care. It’s about recognizing how the nervous system responds when it doesn’t feel safe and creating an environment where choice, agency, and self-trust are prioritized.
In the movement and bodywork world, this awareness matters. Whether you teach yoga, guide breathwork, lead fitness classes, or facilitate somatic healing, understanding trauma-informed principles allows you to:
✔️ Offer choices instead of commands
✔️ Use language that invites rather than dictates
✔️ Create a space that feels safe, predictable, and inclusive
✔️ Recognize signs of activation and provide grounding tools
✔️ Help clients reconnect with their bodies without force or pressure
This weekend, I along with Dr. Nikki Davis, we are offering a weekend Immersive Trauma-Informed Principles for Yoga teachers, embodiment coaches, and body-based wellness practitioners who want to deepen their understanding of nervous system regulation, embodied safety, and mindful facilitation.
