What we’re about

This group is for everyone interested in learning or deepening their knowledge of the Nonviolent Communication (NVC) process through discussion and practice. NVC is a progressive conflict resolution method developed by American psychologist Marshall Rosenberg to de-escalate disagreements and increase empathy in situations of human conflict.
We will meet monthly to explore the principles of NVC, following the structure of Rosenberg’s seminal book Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life (PuddleDancer Press). Together, we’ll read, discuss, practice, and reflect on key concepts, working through the material chapter by chapter.
The range of NVC-related topics will vary from session to session to accommodate the needs of the participants. Topics include, but are not limited to, the use of value judgments, linguistic strategies to de-escalate arguments, the vocabulary of feelings and needs, how to make a request, the use of interrogative words such as ‘Why?’, self-compassion, emotional awareness, and all that is needed to enhance our empathy and interpersonal connections.
Join us for the first meeting, which will take place on Monday, October 7th, at 6:00 PM at the Prince of Wales Pub (Wetherspoon). The meeting will last approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. Attendance is free.
