What we’re about

Welcome to Macclesfield Marauders, where we focus on the trekking and adventuring side of marauding and leave out the raiding and plundering parts.

Most of our hikes take place in or around Macclesfield and the Peak District, but we often head further afield too, like north Wales, the Lakes or the Yorkshire Dales. Our walks are primarily for experienced hikers, ranging in difficulty from moderate to challenging with a fairly decent pace. Distances are usually between ten and thirteen miles but occasionally we'll put on something more challenging.

Almost all of our walks are circular, starting and ending in the same place, but occasionally we'll hop on public transport for a linear walk. We try and put on at least a couple of events each month.

Walks usually last about five or six hours with a packed lunch stop in the middle, and we often include a halfway/end of walk social pub visit.

See our hike difficulty guide below:

  • Easy - Short distance, less than ten miles and mostly flat. Suitable for anyone capable of a brisk stroll.
  • Moderately Easy - Shortish distance, around ten miles, some gentle hills. For those who walk regularly but don't have too much hiking experience.
  • Moderate - Between ten and thirteen miles, a few decent hills with potentially steep sections. For those with decent hiking experience.
  • Moderately Challenging - Longer distance, thirteen miles or more with lots of hills. Suitable for confident hikers who enjoy being out for most of the day.
  • Challenging - Around fifteen miles or more, with hills, mountains and maybe the odd scramble. For experienced hikers who like pushing themselves.
  • Hard - Long distance, sometimes over twenty miles, with mountains and difficult terrain. Only suitable for fit, experienced hikers.
