Scouting Hike, Marriottsville Area

Details

This scouting hike is expected to be about six miles in length with several hundred feet of elevation gain, depending on what we find. Please don't sign up for this hike unless you've recently completed a similar hike and are comfortable with the unknowns of scouting hikes.

This is a scouting hike, building on a previous scouting hike where we'll try to improve on the earlier effort. We'll bushwhack, paralleling the river along a grassy area instead of walking along the RR track. We'll also explore a new trail to avoid a trail we know is briar-filled and poorly blazed.

The weather forecast is a little iffy. If it worsens significantly, THE HIKE MAY BE RESCHEDULED TO FRIDAY OR THE FOLLOWING WEEK. WATCH YOUR EMAIL FOR POSSIBLE CHANGES.

We'll have a map and a plan but things may not go as expected. We may end up retracing our steps or trying new trails not on the planned route. There will be some new stream crossings that are new to us. If you prefer hikes you know will go according to plan, please sign up for a different hike. The Mountain Club offers several hikes of varying intensity throughout the week.

Here's where we'll meet: +39.3516509; -76.8989807: Near (not at) 714 Mar-riottsville Road 21104. Parking is limited so carpool if you can. Note that we do not wait for latecomers so please plan ahead.

We'll have a snack break mid-hike and an optional stream-side brownbag lunch after the hike.

Here's a link to the weather forecast.
