Planning and Creating a Bird and Wildlife Friendly Garden
Details
Nature Vancouver is pleased to announce that Derek Matthews of the Vancouver Avian Research Centre will be our Birder’s Night Speaker on the 7th of November. Derek will be speaking to us on Planning and Creating a Bird and Wildlife Friendly Garden. This presentation will show people why that is and how they can take advantage of their gardens to help our birds and other wildlife. Whether it is an existing garden that needs a few tweaks or an expansive lawn that is being transformed for the benefit of nature, the presentation is designed to give people a head start in welcoming more birds to their garden and to ensure their outdoor space, whether large or small, will help birds and other wildlife to thrive. The presentation covers: design and layout; water features and feeders; nesting habitat and nest boxes; plants and maintenance.
A passionate ornithologist, avian researcher and conservationist; Derek is the Chair of the Vancouver Avian Research Centre, a Master bird bander (A Master Bander is an individual licensed by Environment Canada to capture and band wild birds) and an NABC (North American Banding Council) Certified Trainer.
