What we’re about
Our group is about meeting up with others to experience the best of film and to discuss it in a socially relaxed way without fear of censorship or suppression.
Our mission is to host/organise regular meetups at Nottingham Broadway, as well as less frequent events at Derby Quad, Mammoth (Nottingham), Beeston Arc, Leicester Phoenix, Sheffield Showroom and other cinemas.
We will also be looking to organise other events that are in some way film/cinema related.
For standard events, we meet at the venue before the film, then gather together again afterwards to discuss any thoughts we have. There’s an organiser at each event to act as host and to answer any questions. Drinks, food etc. can be ordered as desired, when available.
This group is for anyone who wants to become part of a bunch of enthusiastic “film appreciators” and meet new people.
We ALWAYS look to retain all of our valued attendees, as long as doing so has no adverse impact on the group as a whole. All we ask for is common decency and consideration for others so as to keep our Meetups as enjoyable as possible.
We look forward to you joining us at an event soon!

'Ebony Reels Film Club welcomes you to Broadway Cinema for a special screening event exploring the development of the Standing In This Place sculpture project - planned for Nottingham Broadmarsh’s new ‘Green Heart'
Enjoy a rich mix of film, fantastic spoken word performances from Quinton Green and Nottingham poet Cara Thompson, as well as a fascinating interactive panel discussion with key figures from the project. Two short films by Fred Glenister (50 mins) and Rachell Halaburda (15 min) will showcase the development, creation, and casting of this important artwork. The sculpture gives voice and recognition to the contributions of millions of enslaved Black women uprooted to the Americas, as well as the thousands of Nottingham women and girls whose labour was the driving force behind the East Midlands’ textile industry and the development of Nottingham’s Lace Market.
Join us! Celebrate the many collaborators whose grassroots participation has brought untold stories and this artwork to life.'

This is the first offering from new Nottingham pop-up cinema group Rambling Cinema, who aim to prove that foreign-language films can be just as accessible, fun and exciting as their English counterparts. Whether it's French The Substance, Egyptian Dodgeball, Indonesian Dredd or Bhutanese The Thick Of It, you can get all the humour, action or horror of a Hollywood production while visiting a new part of the world and seeing life through someone else's eyes.
Voy! Voy! Voy! is the incredible true story of a man who faked blindness to swindle his way into the Egyptian blind football team, following his dream to immigrate to Europe. As his lies stack up, he gradually realises he might not even be the most dishonest man on the team.
A dark sports comedy with surprising heart about the desperation of migration: Dodgeball meets Catch Me If You Can.
Tickets are pay what you can. Stick around afterwards for a drink and a chat (the bar is open until 11pm).

"A radical animated retelling of the holiday classic that starts with a Victorian performance of the Charles Dickens tale before diving into the imagination of one of the children in the audience, taking the story to a darker fantasy realm."
"We are delighted to be brining you a brand new made for cinema immersive adaptation of a classic family favourite. This will be a real treat for those who love Christmas entertainment, innovative cinema, contemporary dance and ballet or good old fashioned story telling! A Victorian family prepares a paper theatre for a performance of A Christmas Carol. The audience enters the imagination of one of the children and quickly, the cardboard stage transforms to reveal a magical world containing real dancers and stylised sets. The classic tale unfolds in a rich tapestry of highly absorbing, theatrical drama featuring sumptuous visual effects inspired by the techniques of early cinema. In a daring twist of format, characters are portrayed by dancers and voiced by an eclectic cast of the world’s most recognisable actors. The mix of danced action and spoken narration brings fresh dimension to Dickens’ characters and poetic language, whilst remaining true to the beauty of the author’s original narrative."
