Bus/Car Ramble: Beeston Lock – Riverside/Canal Walk

What we will do: Start time: 10.15am for 10.30am. Please arrive at the Canalside Heritage Centre earlier to take food orders.
Short Walk – 5 miles. Starting from the Canalside Heritage Centre, Weir Cottages, Canal Side, Beeston Rylands, over the small bridge just before the lock on the right looking over the weir. Great walk taking in Beeston Rylands, Attenborough village, Attenborough Nature Reserve Centre, nature trails with return by the side of the Trent. All on the flat with toilet stops at both centres.
Long Walk - 7 miles. Starting from Beeston Lock a circular walk going eastward along the riverside and then back along the canal side from town. An interesting autumnal walk all on the flat taking in River Trent, River Leen and Beeston Canal. Lunch at Heritage centre. The centre offers hot and cold food. You cannot eat your own food on the premises. They have asked for pre-order and prepayment on the day. Other options are available such as a bar and a cafe nearby. Some seating outdoors.

Directions by car: Please park at side of canal, on South Road about 50 metres before the lock. No parking at the Heritage Centre. Post Code NG9 1LZ, GR 543 357.
Directions by bus: Take a CT4N bus: number 18 from the Bus Stop (B1), Beastmarket Hill in Nottingham to Canal Side (Sw-Bound), Beeston Rylands. Buses are once an hour, best bus at 9.45am from Nottingham arriving Beeston Rylands at 10.10am approx.

Important to know: There are usually 10-15 people on these walks. A lot of the walkers will be club members and are not on the Meetup website.

What to bring: Please dress appropriately for a country walk. Wear proper walking boots, bring a rucksack with liquid refreshment and some waterproof clothes depending on the weather forecast for the day.
