What we’re about
This is a group for adults only. Pets are not allowed at events, attendees must be members of the group (1 guest allowed at the event organizer's discretion), and all members must read the rules ("Guiding Light") section below before attending any events. Cross posting is allowed; this must be in the event description.
If you are running a post-outing social such as coffee or a meal, you can either include details in the event OR create a separate event to allow for easier management.
This group is geared towards beginner active folks, so that we can get in some summer watersports, beautiful nature hikes, tennis, golf/driving range time, tennis or pickleball, downhill or cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The intent of this group is to give people an opportunity to get out of their houses for fresh air and exercise, and to meet some great new people at the same time. Events will take place in Ottawa and surrounding areas / neighboring towns, so you will need a vehicle to get to and from.
☀☀☀ GUIDING LIGHT ☀☀☀
1. This is a group for adults only, no pets at events.
2. In the event, a clear photograph and your first name, at minimum, must be visible.
3. Limited spots: DO NOT sign up unless you really intend to go. People rely on others to actually show up, and also you're holding a spot someone else could've had.
4. Cancellation/No-show policy: aside from illness, should you need to cancel your attendance at any event in this group, please do so at least 24 hours in advance to allow others the time to plan/prepare to attend. If you forget completely (it happens), message the host directly to let them know what happened, as they and probably the others in the event, were waiting for you. Repeated failure to adhere to this rule may result in removal from the group.
5. The main purpose of this group is to provide a safe space for physical activity and events. If you feel a member has acted inappropriately (either through messaging or in person), please let a group or event organizer know! This includes making disparaging remarks about an event, organizer or member.
6. ABILITY/HEALTH Requirements: if you have any cold/flu symptoms, DO NOT attend events. Additionally, do not attend these hikes, or other events, if you do not have general good health or ability for endurance of at least 5km of brisk-paced walking or hiking.
7. DO post on the event wall/chat if you’re going to be late. It is at the discretion of the event organizer to wait for you.
DO NOT post personal information (e.g., phone number, email).
8. If you plan to take photos including other attendees, please ask their permission at the start of the event. Event Organizers may take group photos that include the attendees, so if this a concern, let the Event Organizer know at the start of the event.
9. By signing up for any event you are absolving the host(s) of any responsibility for any injuries you may sustain while participating in this event. You are responsible to check on and dress appropriately for the weather, including wearing the proper footwear, including wearing headlamps for night walks and ice-cleats/crampons, in the winter and late Spring.
10. This group has a $5 one-time membership dues to cover the annual registration cost. Please e-transfer $5 to [email protected] (Mike L). Thanks in advance for your membership and support!
