Manchester Almost Traffic Free Bike Ride and Extension

Details

Keeping myself amused during the long days of lockdown and for me home schooling I devised a series of mainly traffic free cycle routes for members of Meetup groups I am involved with.

All involved joining together canalside tow paths, old railway line trails, country parks, nature trails and other local routes into a joined up 25-35 mile easy circular routes for all to enjoy.

These have now all been executed with great success in Nottingham, Derby, South & Central Birmingham, North & Central Birmingham, Walsall & Wolverhampton and Stoke on Trent & Stone. They were all lovely rides with some great people participating and I am certainly now doing them again when I get the chance.

Our circular almost traffic free ride in Manchester is no exeption.

We park up close to the Debdale Outdoor Centre close to M60 / J24 with Gorton or Ryder Brow Stations also very nearby. We shall be doing a figure of eight with main route around 25 miles going right through the City Centre and out as far as Sale with the extension loop of a further 15 miles crossing the M60 via some very lovely parts of Hyde and Denton.

You don't need to be super fit or a regular rider as there are no big hills and we go at a steady pace throughout. We keep road sections to an absolute minimum. Pretty much any bike will do including e-bikes if that's your thing but hybrids are ideal.

Helmets are obligatory on all group bike rides for insurance reasons as well as safety.

There will be plenty of opportunities to stop for refreshments on our route but you should bring fluids, snacks and optionally lunch packup if you feel the need.

Here's a relive of the ride I did in Stoke on Trent so you can see what lovely rides they are.
