This will bring you to the official Prose Society group where you can chat with other writers, get answers to your writing questions, and much more.
ABOUT US:
Have you been looking for a tribe of writers (think 1920s in Paris) who want to see their names on the covers of their work?
Are you a writer with a few manuscripts covered in dust in your closet?
Have you always wanted to try your hand at writing a short story or novel but talked yourself out of it?
Here at Prose Society, we believe that if you're serious about writing and getting published, you need to surround yourself with other writers who have a similar drive and goal.
That's why we created this MeetUp group.
After all, you are the average of the five people you spend time with... so why not hang out more with some great and eccentric writers?
HOW IS THIS GROUP DIFFERENT FROM OTHER WRITING GROUPS?
We have nothing but respect for the other writing groups in the area, but none of them seem to focus on meetings that are:
- Free
- Focused on critiquing one another's work
- Long-term focused (e.g., getting published)
We created this group so that writers - new and lifelong - could come together, learn something new, practice the craft, and get actionable feedback for free.
And hey, it doesn’t hurt to make some new friends in the process.
GROUP MISSION:
The mission of this group is to bring together writers in St. Pete (and the Tampa Bay area) for the purpose of member-led workshops, practical critiquing, and overall support for one another.
Our goal is to build a strong community of writers who inspire and motivate one another to take that much-needed next step in their literary journey.
So, if this sounds like something you want to be a part of, join us for one of our meet-ups!
WHAT WE ARE NOT
This group is a lot of things to a lot of people but here are some things that we don't promote:
Selling Your Book: We are not a marketplace for you to try and sell your book. We're happy that you wrote a book, but please don't come to a meeting with the intention to promote yourself or directly sell. It won't work. While we encourage sharing and discussing your work, this is not the venue for hard sales pitches. Our primary aim is to support each other through the writing and publishing process, fostering a collaborative and nurturing environment.
Unprofessional Feedback: We are not a group that tolerates nasty or mean-spirited feedback. Constructive criticism is the cornerstone of our feedback approach. Our focus is on providing professional, respectful, and helpful critiques that help each writer improve their craft.
One-Size-Fits-All: We understand that each writer is unique, with their own goals and styles. Our group is about supporting each individual's journey, whether you're writing your first short story or polishing your latest novel.
Drama or Inappropriate Behavior: We are not a space for drama or inappropriate behavior. Our group values respect, inclusivity, and professionalism, creating a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
QUESTIONS?
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to send myself (David) or Rachel a message. Hope to see you at the next meeting.
