Shut Up & Write! Madison: Vilas/Monroe

Join us for an hour of writing at Garth's Brew Bar! Putting words on the page alongside other writers is a great way to commit to your creative hobby, or just get some work done!

I'm Jeromy, your host, and you can find me at the table with a "Shut Up & Write" sign. I will try to arrive by 5:15 but if you beat me there go ahead and take a spot at one of the large tables or booths.

Any form of writing is ok: novel, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, song, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.

SCHEDULE:

5:30 - Brief introductions of ourselves and share what we are working on.

5:40 - Timer starts.

6:40 - Check in on the progress we made, then keep writing or hang out for a while longer.

OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 6:35. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers works wonders to keep you motivated and inspired.

BEING LATE IS OKAY: Just show up and quietly get settled, then introduce yourself when we share our progress at the end.

What Should I Bring?

Whatever you need to be able to write!

Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block the overhead music or the occasional conversation by other patrons.

Please come with your laptop charged -- there are not many plugs available.

Other Important Details:

TRAVEL / PARKING: Garth's does not have a parking lot but does have bike racks outside and is across the street from a bus stop. There is paid street parking on Monroe Street, and free two hour parking on adjacent streets.

GUIDELINES: Please be respectful of Garth's by purchasing a drink or snack if you are able to. They do have some non-alcoholic options as well, so there's no pressure to drink if you don't or can't. Most nights I will be getting an NA option myself!
