What we’re about

Do you love reading books that are a little weird? Do you seek out books that leave a scene or two lingering in your head after you close it? Do you like the feeling of being creeped out, weirded out, or at least a little uncomfortable? This might be the perfect book club for you.

Our meetings are about two hours, usually located in the Westminster area. For the first hour, we will discuss the book for the month. During this time, there is no firm structure; we discuss "popcorn" style. If you have thoughts, opinions, questions, throw them out there! However, it is a firm boundary to stay on topic during this first hour. Please keep all discussion about the book. Everyone took the time and effort to read the book, so it's important to honor that and make our conversation worthwhile! After about an hour and/or when the discussion starts to naturally fizzle, I'll transition us by introducting next month's book. At that point, it's a social hour, conversation is a lot more casual, and we can all get to know each other and talk about whatever!

I will do my best to post content warnings for the more triggering topics where I can (if I've read the book beforehand). Please know that possibly triggering content could still be part of any book that we read. There will be a variety of authors, so feel free to attend whatever sounds interesting.

We'd love to have you!

I'm pretty serious about accurate RSVPs. If you RSVP yes and can no longer make it, please remark yourself as no, and if you can't, please at least communicate in the event comments. I know life happens! If it happens twice with no communication, I will have to remove you from the group. (Just to reiterate, saying yes and then later saying no is totally fine! I am referring to saying yes and then ghosting.)

Note: I reserve the right to remove anyone from the group for any reason. These reasons might include but are not limited to:

  • Not following RSVP policy as stated above

  • Straying off-topic to the point of distraction during book discussion. Please be respectful of everyone's time and energy.

  • Dominating the conversation. We love people who are excited to talk about the book! That's fantastic. But please give everyone a fair chance to speak; we're a big table.

  • Repeatedly "Going" to "Not Going" at the last minute. This mostly applies if you do this multiple times because it is discouraging and unfair to waitlisted people. It's a book club, so you know if you're going to read the book or not.

  • Harrassment or intolerance of race, gender, or sexuality.

I'm an easy-going group leader, and we are a very friendly, relaxed group. Unfortunately, these are all issues we have encountered at one time or another. We work really hard to keep the vibes fun, inviting, and comfortable. I will remove anyone who complicates our good time. I hope that sounds more inviting than threatening!
