Lord of the Rings: Prologue and Book I (half of Fellowship)

A Long Expected Party:

And so, at long last, we begin the Lord of the Rings. I meant to have this up last week, but, hey, let's face it, most of us have it half memorized anyway and will find no problem racing through this portion in the next three weeks, and could probably discuss any part at length upon simply hearing the general details of a passage right now.

We'll be going by Tolkien's original six-book arrangement, but that's not hard to follow, as it is two per each of the three published trilogy volumes and all publications of the trilogy have the book separations in the trilogy volumes, including in the table of contents. In addition to Book I, we'll be doing the Prologue (Concerning Hobbits and Other Matters). We'll be doing one each of the six books per meeting, in order, and probably the month of December off, since there is so much travel around the holiday. (I want to do the appendices this time around, but I've not yet decided whether to put those with book VI or make them a separate meeting).
