This is a wee get together for a bit of craic dancing and Karoke . We hope to meet in O Connells Bar off O Connell Street and finish the night with a few songs before we say goodnight and wish you a merry christmas

it's keep fit time so what better way than to start by a beginners introductory stroll along the costal path to Potrane through the old HSE buildings and back to the town for a beer dinner or a cup of tea.
To brighten things up we will tell yarns about lambay island ( how the wallaby arrived) the pirates of Potrane the ghost ship the church shile na gig and procreation habits and other yarns

Carricklittle Car Park, Annalong
This is a mildly strenuous walk, but most people of fair fitness should manage fine. Expect it to take 3 or 4 hours depending on pace (and frequency of tea breaks!). There are several steep climbs and some rough terrain. This is an excellent walk because not only is it a good workout, the views are stunning and there is some great scrambling to avail of if you are that way inclined. Slieve Binnian is a playground for this sort of thing because of its large rock outcrops on top. This is another reason why this walk is my favourite – ready yourself for some excellent photo opportunities.
We meet at Caricklittle Car Park and climb to the North Torr. Then onto the west Torr and home by the blue lough and Percy Breach . It looks worse than it is and i normally go at a slow to easy pace , but it is a mountain hike over 747 metres but a good senic climb.
If Weather bad we will do Castlewellan forest park.

Please bring all weather gear ( it will be cold) including good hiking BOOTS (not trainers or anything else ) jeans will cut the legs off you if damp so you have been warned . Rucksac needed to carry drinks and food we will stop for lunch and a tea break as many members will be new and not fully fit .

In terms of insurance . This is a guided walk so not coverable by group insurance so id suggest you self insure with Mountaineering Ireland .

This is an event thought up by Caroline who thought we are often busy offering meetups all over Ireland and neglecting the wonderful beauty and history of South Armagh where we live.
There is wonderfull accomodation in Canal Court Newry or Mourne Country but equally good at The Clogue inn or Ti Cullain residential centre Mullaghbawn .( reccomended see photos)

we can bus of Train to Newry bus station and car pool to various sites in the wobderfull South Armagh .
Such places will include Derramore House and Gardens ( sight of the signing of the 1922 treaty ) . Bessbrook quaker and model village ( sorry no drink lol) .
Creggan near Crossmaglen site of poets trail and Dick Turpin and the bandits .Mullaghbawn the hound of Ulster and the beautiful but dangerous Roach Castle

today we leave carlingford on a beginers hike and go up the tain trail to the top of Barnaveigh which is half the sise of slieve foy .
it will be good for those like myself who are looking to start their hill walking career but need more finess .We then loop round past the famine village and continue the Roosky loop trail to Carlingford .

Barnaveigh means maeves gap.and throughout the walk you host will detail some history abd local legends . bring food lunch and drinks boots or good footwear needed .

However, historian Meda Ryan, who researched the incident exhaustively, concluded that there was no real basis for such theories. “Michael Collins was shot by a Republican, who said [on the night of the ambush], ‘I dropped one man’”. Liam Deasy, who was in command of the ambush party, said, “we all knew it was Sonny Neill’s bullet.” We will visit collins museum , ambush site and find out .
