This is a co-lead ride by Michael Law and Sheena Wight.

Pace will be a very relaxed social ride of about 11- 12mph. No one will be left behind.

We will meet at Dalkeith High School / Community Campus (first left at the traffic lights heading east just after Aldi's) and just at the start of the large car park area within the school grounds (EH22 2PS). Car parking, if you need to bring a car, is usually ok within the school grounds.

There will be a choice of two routes depending on the weather on the actual day and the days preceding the ride (ie if lots of rainfall the first choice ride on the Old Pencaitland Railway can be a bit of a mudfest).

First choice of ride:
We will head up to Crossgatehall and follow the entire Pencaitland Railway shared path, then over to East & West Saltoun and onto Gifford for a coffee and food. We return the same way except with two tiny loops, one around the golf course at Gifford and the other via Langside at the end.

Second choice ride:
We will head up to Cousland and take the back road to Ormiston, then pick up the main road to Pencaitland for a short section, then over to East & West Saltoun and onto Gifford for a coffee and food. Then head north to the outskirts of Haddington and back westish via Samuelston to Pencaitland, New Winton, over the hill at Elphinstone, finishing back at Dalkeith High School.

First choice 29 miles and 1375' ascent
Second choice 33 miles and 1800' ascent
Surface type:
First choice of ride: a mix of gravel and road
Second choice of ride: all roads (most fairly quiet)
Bike: Road / gravel bike

Coffee: at Lanterne Rouge (table is already booked but still need numbers to confirm exactly)

Essentials: helmet, layers (including waterproofs), snacks, water, spare tube/tools, emergency contact number, means of getting home in the event of a puncture / mechanical that cant be fixed on the roadside, a bike lock if you have one, card or cash payment, banter .....
Front and rear lights are a good idea just incase there are any delays and we hit sunset.

This ride is weather dependent and may be cancelled or route altered before or on the day so please keep checking for updates.
