What we’re about
WELCOME! The Wasatch Hiking and Outdoors Meetup is a group of people that love to hike with others! We feature hikes for all skill levels, road trips, camping, and social gatherings. We have events throughout the Wasatch Front, including Salt Lake, Davis, Weber, & Utah counties and further! We even hike at night!
KNOW YOUR LIMITS.
Our Organizers are NOT tour guides, we are NOT rangers. Going out with us is the same as going out with a few friends. Expect the same risks, and PLEASE take the same precautions. As Organizers, we will do our best to give accurate descriptions of the hikes we post. If you are a beginning hiker, a hike's elevation and distance may not mean much to you. Likewise, difficulty ratings are subjective, and a hike that is Easy for one person, may be Moderate to another. Err on the side of caution. You're much better off going on a hike that's too easy for you than a hike that's too hard or too dangerous for you. As you go on more hikes with us, you'll become more familiar with our ratings and our descriptions, and you'll learn more about your own limits. Ultimately, it's up to you to keep yourself SAFE out there. You are an adult. Hike within your abilities.
DUES/FEES
There are no membership dues to be a part of this group. However, Meet-up charges organizers about $180/year. If you appreciate our group, please consider donating a monetary token of your appreciation by clicking on the "Chip In" button. Some events do cost and we ask for donations to attend those events. Each of those events will specify what is being asked.
INDIVIDUAL EXPECTATIONS
Each person is responsible for themselves in every way. We share information, food, rides, and experience each event as a group of individuals, each person responsible for their conduct, behavior, language and actions. We recognize that people join us to experience the event, so impromptu romantic advances are considered “inappropriate” during the Meetup event. The organizers want to ensure that participants feel safe and comfortable with other group members. Personal information (PI) may be requested to facilitate event logistics (e.g., ride sharing), however, PI will not be shared for any other reason. For some camping events, participants may be asked to verify their identity. When requested, organizers will want to verify the real name of each participant (even if the real name is not used by the person publicly). We may also check each person against government-maintained lists, which may lead to their dismissal from the event. Even though we may do this, it is still the responsibility of each individual to be safe. As a community, we should look out for one another and report any behavior or situations that are suspect, or putting any individual or the group at risk. If participants have any concerns before, during, or after an event, organizers are available to listen, in person or through the private chat associated with Meetup. More verbiage to follow if needed.
To learn more about the group, BE SURE TO CHECK OUT OUR "ABOUT" PAGE. That's also where you'll find our FAQ and Hiking Etiquette pages.

Yes. This event is slightly beyond Wasatch.
On the other hand we have organized an awesome mountain trek and would like you to join us.
It's a bucket list item for many.
It embodies adventure and the romance of traveling to far off places. It is also tempered with safety and do-ability.
The actual dates are Apr 25-May 11, 2025 and the trip is 17 days/16 nights.

To clarify. We are NOT going up to the top of Everest (29,000’)
We are going to Everest Base Camp at 17,600’
Our starting elevation will be in Lukla at 9,400’You need to be of average or better fitness. If you can manage walking 3-6 hours a day, up and down a hill while carrying a light daypack, you will be OK! If you are very fit and work out and train, you will be at the front.
Professional guides to lead, and Yaks to carry our gear are included. And a Yak Herder too!!
All that is left for us to carry is our water, snacks and camera.
But I don't have the needed gear?!

All meals on the trek potion are included. What is lodging like?
We are sleeping in a series of "Tea Houses" along the route. You will have a bed in a shared room with roommate (from the group). Sorry, a solo room will not be available on this trip. We will pair up everybody. How dangerous is this? What if I get sick or hurt?
This is NOT the summiting Everest with people dying from bad choices. We will be walking on an established, well used trail the entire time, and NOT on snow or ice. Stats from past years show that 30,000 people a year do the EBC Trek. With all that said, . . . our trip INCLUDES emergency insurance. We are also Certified Wilderness First Responders.
Plain and simple, safety is our primary goal. We will have an experienced guide and porters, and we will be along the entire way.How much does this cost?
