After working out semi-consistently from 2000 to 2020 at over 10 different gyms, I can confidentially declare that Planet Fitness is the absolute best choice for MOST people (the rich and serious lifters excluded), and it only took my entire life to discover it.
I will exercise at Planet Fitness Bloomfield Hills every Monday from around 4:30 to 6:30, then organize (encouraging people to meet up with me and consider performing) and perform stand-up comedy in Ferndale, New Way Bar, every evening starting at 7.

I can’t tell you how much easier the workouts become when you’re focused on perfecting your comedy routine. It’s kinda like karaoke, except you’re also WRITING the dang song!

Now this is the most important part by far, so I’m saving it for last and burying it beneath these unimportant rambling stream-of-consciousness words to punish those who can’t be bothered to read the full description of an event they’re attending for the first time. (Did I just say the quiet part out loud?) In no way will I guarantee I’ll be there every single Monday, and I refuse to add extra stress to my life. If—and only if—you are at least 90% certain you will actually be showing up to exercise, text me at 248 242 3554. Texting me your name and intent is the ONLY way to rsvp, and the only way to ensure I’ll be there. Feel free to RSVP on MDA if you have any intention at all in joining me, you know, just to inflate the numbers and my ego.
I’m also happy to meet you at your own gym as a guest if it happens to fit into my schedule for the day. I’m self-employed (until I start teaching again this Aug, and yes, the RSVP joke was related to decades of students failing to read simple instructions, and completely serious about punishing those who ignore vital info at their peril) so I’m extremely flexible.

This huge new beautiful building (https://reimaginerec.com/) offers open pickup play every weekday from 9 to noon for just $8, or $5 for members. I'm committed to playing at least once a week, but I can't say which mornings I'll play for sure beyond tomorrow morning.

Of course, you don't need me to play, as they have a great system for finding courts to play on based on your self-assessed skill level. But if you're new to the game and would like to count on the fact that you'll "know" at least one person, feel free to text me (Jim 248 242 3554) the morning(s) you are available to play and I'll let you know if I can meet you there.

I played a little in 2020, but only just started again today (Sunday, for an animal rescue charity event) and fell in love with it all over again. I started the day as a beginner and ended up advanced intermediate by the end:-). I can't wait to play tomorrow (Monday) in just over eight hours after eating breakfast with a new friend.

This is meant to be a fun first event. Please make sure to be respectful of everyone playing.

Bring a light and dark shirt in order to make team selection easier.

We will need to have some flexibility with kids soccer popping in and out, so check the event for messages and updates.

Are you ready to play football?

A friendly, coed game of touch football. Great at football... perfect. New... that's fine too. We will get everyone involved.

We organize teams once people show up, please try to bring something light colored (or white or yellow) and something dark.

Please try to be on time. We will meet at 10:30AM and start playing shortly after. If you are new and show up early and nobody is around, please don't worry... we'll be there.

We will plan to finish by 12:30PM so that people can still watch the Lions game. This weekly game now extended beyond the football season, but we will keep playing at the same time

We need a minimum of 7 players to play. Please only RSVP YES if you are going to actually show up, everyone else is relying on your attendance so that we can actually have a game.

We play year round in all weather, the game will not be cancelled based on weather only bassd on lack of attendance.

If anyone has an extra ball, please bring it.

If you have trouble finding the field or locating the group, please call or text me 248-912-8286.
